Flying to Bali with mugs made of buffalo horn

Hi, as the title suggests, I’m flying to Bali from Australia and have held off on purchasing 8 drinking mugs (made of buffalo horn) from modernviking.com.au. They’re gifts for my groomsmen.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice surrounding this in terms of declaring and if if I will have any issues being an “animal product”
They’re quite expensive and it would be a shame to have them confiscated upon arrival.

Thanks!

How to avoid kids in October

Just wondering if there are any resorts you can recommend in Nusa Dua that feel private and without children screaming and running around everywhere? Anywhere that feels more adult and like a relaxing get away than a theme park for parents to keep their kids entertained while they turn a blind eye to them screaming and running around?

Driver privato vs Grab?

Grazie a tutti

Is Bali + Labuan Bajo realistic in 2 weeks?

Hi everyone! Just sorting a future itinerary and I was wondering if it would be realistic to visit Ubud + Uluwatu + Nusa Penida + Labuan Bajo in 2 weeks.

Also what route is the best and easiest?

Let me know what you think or how you have experienced this. Thanks a lot.

Looking for REAL family-run local restaurants/warungs in Ubud — no tourist traps

Me and my girlfriend will be staying in Ubud for about two weeks and I’m looking for genuinely local, family-run places to eat.
I’m not looking for Instagram-famous restaurants, trendy cafés, Westernized “authentic” restaurants, or places that mainly cater to tourists.
I want the kind of place that’s been run by the same family for decades, grandma is still cooking, recipes passed down through generations, small menu, simple setup, and mostly locals eating there.
Basically, if your Indonesian or Balinese grandmother took you somewhere to eat, where would she take you?
I don’t care if it looks fancy. Honestly the more hole-in-the-wall and family-run the better. I’m happy to travel outside central Ubud and into surrounding villages for something special.
Any old-school warungs or family restaurants you’d recommend?

First trip ever

Hi everyone!
I’m going to Bali from the 22nd to the 29th of August, and this is my first ever international trip, so I’m equal parts nervous and excited. I’m flying in from India and my husband is coming from Australia, and we’re meeting there. I wanted to ask a few things and would really appreciate any advice.

My flight is Air India (economy ofcourse) and it’s about 9 hours. Is the food okay? Do I need a neck pillow? Is there anything I should carry with me?

For the visa, we’ve registered for the e-visa, but we’re stuck on the tourist levy payment - keeps getting cancelled every time at payment. Has anyone faced this? I also know there’s some health pass we’re supposed to do. Is there anything else we need to sort out before we go?

We already have Grab and Gojek downloaded, and I bought a Telkomsel eSIM from Balisim.in - is there anything I should be careful about with that?

Is it safe to wear our wedding rings? We"ll be carrying our laptops too, can be left in the airbnbs?

On clothes, we don’t have a fixed itinerary yet - just booked the villas - 22-25 in Bija Villa Ubud and 25-29 Villa LeNomi Seminyak. We will go to Finns one day surely. But I’m confused about how to dress for the day. We plan on renting a scooter so we can go around easily, but should I wear swimwear with a sarong over it for the whole day, or just change when I actually go to the beach?

Sorry if some of these sound silly, I’m just really nervous! I’ve already sorted mosquito repellent, ORS, and stomach/flu medicines. Any other tips or guides would mean a lot.

Thank you in advance for your time!

Grab/Gojek vs private driver for Bali + Yogyakarta?

Hi! We’re 3 people (females) traveling around Bali and Yogyakarta and wondering which days we can manage with Grab/Gojek vs needing a private driver.

Bali:

- Ubud → Gunung Kawi → Tirta Empul → Tegallalang

- Ubud → Ulun Danu → Banyumala → Jatiluwih

- Ubud → GWK → Uluwatu → Jimbaran

- Jimbaran → Gilimanuk

Yogyakarta:

- Sambisari → Kalasan → Sari → Plaosan → Ijo

- Jomblang → Prambanan/Sewu

- Borobudur → Merapi

Is Grab/Gojek reliable for these routes, including getting picked up from the more remote places?

If a private driver is better, what's a reasonable daily price for 3 people and where should we find a trustworthy driver? We mainly need transportation, not necessarily a guide.

Any suggestions or criticism to the itinerary is welcome too!! 😇

Thanks!

Uluwatu Accommodation/area Advice

First time in Bali, just for a week with my non surfing girlfriend for a week early September.
Been looking pretty hard to find a hotel or villa that we love and most are sold out. Figured I’d post in here just in case somebody has some great insight.
Looking for something decent, hoping to settle in after a long haul flight from the USA. Hoping for something under 27,000,000 IDR if it fits the bill?

What area is best to stay in? We’ve mainly been looking around Padang Padang or in Bingin? Hoping for somewhere that’s safe, where she can possibly walk to cafe/shops or easily get a grab to a nice area.
bonus if I could just walk and paddle out at a spot but I’ll have a scooter so not the biggest deal there as it seems to be generally rare-ish. As well as some sort of staff or security on site for the peace of mind if it isn’t the best area?
Headed to the Mentawais after that week so not gonna risk it too much on the shallowest of spots, gotta keep the feet and body in tact if possible haha

Thanks for reading guys, sorry if this is the wrong sub for this, I know Bali is blown up but I’m very excited to check it out for the first time to start my fairly open ended 2 month Indonesia journey, thanks!

Best Krisna Oleh Oleh branch near airport?

I see from maps that Krisna Toko Oleh Oleh Khas Bali is closer to the DPS airport but Krisna Oleh Oleh Bali Bypass is bigger.

Is the closer branch sufficient already if I just want to look for sarong and sash for temple wear?

Also, do they have baggage counter for large luggage?

Is it easy to book Grab Car from these locations?

Seeking suggestions for snorkeling

Greetings everyone,

I’m going to Bail for about 4 days. I’m interested in snorkeling and looking for beautiful waters and wild sea life.

I can swim and had experience of snorkeling, but not an expert.

I’m wondering if there’s any potential options to go for?
Thank you for your comments and advice.

Have an amazing day!

First time traveller

We have booked 9 days in Nusa Dua, staying at the Sofitel for my wife’s 50th with our 12 year old son in November. I was really excited and looking forward to it but now really starting to regret it after reading about how common Bali belly and other sicknesses are, even within a 5 star resort. We’ve already organised the standard vaccinations, probiotic plan and comprehensive travel insurance but just wondering if there is anything else anyone recommends? Has anyone contracted Bali belly or any other serious illnesses in the Nusa Dua enclave? If so, how was the medical care?

First time in Bali!

Hey everyone,

My partner and I are planning our first time visiting Bali in 1st week of November and we are not sure what to expect due to the scrambled opinions all over so I would appreciate some experienced travelers insights.

We would be going for 3 days in Ubud first, 3 days in Nusa Lembongan and 2 days in Semenyak then head to the airport.

Anything to change? What to do? She wears thong bikinis, where is it safe to do so there and not too much local crowd?

Any beach bars? Any exciting encounters? We love swimming in the sea but not snorkeling or diving. We got intrigued by Au Naturel but we do not know if worth to change the trip to accommodate it and if there is anything similar.

We would love to have fun and at the same time relax and enjoy sandy beaches and clear waters. Open to suggestions as we are a fun couple.

Thanks!

UK travel adapter

Hey forgive me if this is not appropriate for this sub. I have been very unprepared for my trip to Bali and now don't have time to purchase a UK - Europe/Indonesia travel adapter as I have been living in NZ for the last year. Does anybody know anywhere I can buy an adapter like this in Uluwatu? Please let me know, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Best hotels for first timers?

Hello,

I am visiting Bali for the first time this upcoming November, I was wondering which hotels are ideal in terms of price, comfort, and proximity (downtown and transportation)

I am traveling alongside my elderly father so preferably no hostels or remote hotels, thanks !
