Should I mention the payment for a commission I did 2 months ago because I still haven’t seen payment?

I don’t use Reddit as much, but I can’t really go to the regular support group I use on fb because this person mods that group. I just don’t know how to go about this.

I help mod a collection of fb groups, and there’s a huge team of us doing so. I mod for a body positivity group and an art group, and this person mods for the support group.

This person reached out to me personally on March 31st to do an art commission for them. They wanted me to recreate a drawing they did themselves in my own style after their dad threw out their own work. There were talks of payment, but no set number (I don’t get a ton of commissions, this is like my 3rd one ever, so I’m struggling to figure out how to gauge my pricing before I get started on the actual commission). I finished the commission in 2 days on my iPad and sent it out to them (I neglected to add a watermark, but my signature is on there, just in a less obvious spot). All I got in response was “oh that’s super cool”, and they used the drawing like they mentioned they would, and I was perfectly fine with it. I tried going back and forth with them about how I accomplished it and just trying to do small talk about it because I got nervous about mentioning the payment, but they didn’t bring it up or a set price that they thought would be acceptable.

On the 18th of April, I got another text from them saying “I fully intend to pay you for your interpretation of my painting... I'm just low on funds atm”. I didn’t respond to it, but I did open the message.

I then got another message on May 2nd saying “I just want you to know, I appreciate you beyond belief 🩶 As soon as I pay this month's rent, I'm gonna send you some cash for your interpretation of my painting... in the meantime, please let me know if I can boost ya in some way.” Now, I don’t know when their monthly rent is due, but it is now May 16th and there’s been no mention of it. We’re in 3 separate group chats for our mod groups and we’re both pretty active in those. I don’t know how to approach this topic with them (privately, obviously), if I should just let this whole thing go and give up on expecting anything, I just don’t know what to do or what to say that won’t make it awkward. I always feel awkward asking for money, but I put a lot of effort into this project.
