Tour Next Year

Welp. I'm back, hi everybody! It's the middle of the night and I can't sleep because my knee really hurts, and it's an hour till I can take another pain pill. As I listen to my ice machine chug along to the strains of Yor Zarad, I started pondering the possibility of an Angine tour next year. It looks like the current Vol II tour ends mid-December, according to the schedule on their website. I remember seeing somewhere they're already booked to play a U.K. festival next summer. What do you all think the possibility is that they'll announce another full tour? Even more intriguing, any chance it will be a Vol III tour, with a new album dropping in the spring similar to what they did this year? It's fun to dream.

Austin TV on KEXP

KEXP does it again. They've introduced me to another costume-wearing band playing instrumental music. How did I not know about them, they've been around 20 years? I feel like Angine de Poitrine managed to break through the wall of bland algorithm written pop music that has dominated American popular culture for the past 20 years, and other bands will now follow. At least that's what I hope. Much credit to KEXP for introducing me to them.

Selfies With The Band

I don't know how he did it, but this guy in Seattle who goes around getting selfies with celebrities managed to get both Khn and Klek, presumably after their set at KEXP. Note, they are completely covered and clearly posed for these photos but they are wearing their human heads, so if you don't want to see that, skip it. Links below in comments.

They're here finally - met a fan in the wild

I'm in North Carolina, and for the first time today when I was at a community event, somebody stopped me and pointed to my shirt and said "Angine de Poitrine!" He had on a shirt from the King Gizzard Field of Vision festival, so clearly a fan. We had a lovely chat and determined we'll both be at Iron Blossom next month. Up till now, it's been lonely - how nice to discover another person IRL who is a fan!

Khn Is A Yogi

For those of us who were wondering if they practice yoga. I'm watching a video of the Ogden Theater performance on YouTube - that looks like tree pose to me!

Cliches - What Do You Hear

In the Guitar World interview posted recently, Khn says something along the lines of the band both riffs on and celebrates classic rock cliches. One example for me would be "Sherpa", with the nod to Eddie Van Halen. Also L'Aberek has guitar lines that remind me of Santana. What are y'all hearing?

Performance From September 2025 - Planet Claire

YouTube just offered this for my viewing pleasure - a video of a live performance from September of last year that I had never seen before. Maybe some of you haven't either. I didn't see any links to it here. It's interesting to see very early versions of Fabienk and Mata Zyklek, and their early attempts at distorting their voices without all the fancy tech they apparently have now.

Sebastiannnnn

Our local independent theater shows "Stop Making Sense" (the best concert movie ever) from time to time, and I went to see it just for fun, and I had forgotten that David Byrne does the Sebastian dance. "Life During Wartime" is a banger of a song, and this little dance break is even better knowing it's been adapted by an alien civilization. Some more dance moves for their next album maybe? https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1985497812279772

Woah

Am I reading this right, that there are over 45,000 people posting to this subreddit? 🤯🤯 EDIT: Clarification, it's 45,000 people stopping by to view it. Still a LOT of people compared to where it started.

No Fade Outs?

An idle thought that just popped into my head - am I correct in thinking that none of the tracks on either Vol. 1 or Vol 2 fade out? They all have a definite ending? If so, I wonder if that is a stylistic choice, or a practical one for a band that is used to playing live a lot and doesn't want to have to do that lame "hit the first chord and hold it" thing that is so often the solution to a song that was faded out on the record.

Ababa Hotel Appreciation

This track absolutely SLAPS. Every time I listen to it, it goes up in my ranking of fave tracks. I realized today how simple the whole thing is: Klek plays a repeated 7-count to establish the tempo, Khn lays down a bass line and a rhythm guitar line, and then they just stay there. For 6 minutes. (There is a brief breakdown where the bass and rhythm guitar loops drop out, but he comes right back in with the same loops). The track is basically Khn noodling around, then returning to a motif, then noodling around again, while Klek is a machine, keeping the beat, adding really subtle little fills and changes but never wavering in the tempo. And I feel like every time I listen, I hear another "Woo!" There are at least 3, maybe 4. Just an absolutely fantastic, jazzy track. Now I need to go listen to it again!

Music Appreciation

Listening to this band's two albums has led me back to a record I listened to on repeat 25 years ago - Radiohead's "Kid A". In my mind, it has several things in common with Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. The sparse lyrics, the repetition, the measures that aren't simple 4/4 but follow their own meter or measure scheme. And that album has a lot of microtonality. I had forgotten that until I started listening to Angine de Poitrine and I would hear little runs and progressions that made me think of tracks on Kid A. Any other Kid A fans?
