Albany has so many expressways, but why Vancouver, BC does not.

Here's a 15 minute YouTube video about why Vancouver, BC has so few limited access highways through its urban neighborhoods. Unfortunately, years ago both Albany area and State leaders opted for a maze of highways and virtually no mass transit.

It's not too late for the Capital Region. The heavy rail tracks still exist along many main travel corridors in the Albany area:

and Metro North could be the vehicle to serve as the backbone for a true regional mass transit system.

TLDR: Many freeways were proposed to serve the downtown area of Vancouver, BC, but grassroots groups fought options that would have destroyed neighborhoods. Instead a heavy rail system, the Skytrain, was built to serve as the backbone of the mass transit system.
