Italy - Where are the veggies?

Ok… Let me explain.

I’ve been in Italy for the first time for the last 2 weeks. So far, food have been good, but I’m a bit tired of just eating pizza or pasta.

I did get some fish or lamb once which was great, but maybe I don’t understand how Italian cuisine work, but where are the veggies?

In Canada, the meal is always coming with vegetables, potatoes, rice, etc. I think I got potatoes twice so far, but I’m starting to miss broccoli, carrots, asparagus, etc.

I read other similar topics before creating this one. saying the food is bland. For me, it’s not necessarily bland, it’s good. It’s just not what I expected from everyone saying Italy has the best pizza or pasta in the world.

Or maybe the Italian cuisine isn’t just for me? I had some good food in Spain and Iceland that better fit what I like. A mix of meat and vegetables.

Sure, I can always cook my own stuff, but I’m not Italian and it won’t be Italian food. Or maybe it’s just Italian restaurants? Maybe if I would stay with a local it would be different?

I’m not even in a touristic destination. I‘ve been on the Tuscany coast and now I’m on the Ligurian coast.

Maybe I also missed out the contorno on the menu… But I’m sure I didn’t see it everywhere.

Anyway. Thank you for reading.

PS: Just want to add that the croissant I ate are very dry compared to the buttery ones I find at home. They don’t seem to use butter anywhere.

PARMA-GENOA 2-1 | HIGHLIGHTS | Serie A 2026/27

Terrible day for our defenders. Osmajic played well at least.

De Rossi has been confirmed at the helm but the choir of critics is raising the volume.
