Scaffold Knot or Matthew Walker Loop?

This conundrum comes up on this sub quite often when people are asking for a visual identification of either of these knots. We know that a scaffold knot is adjustable and a two-strand Matthew Walker loop is fixed but when looking at a blurry photo it a be quite hard to tell the difference. Hopefully, this will help a bit.

Pylon Hitch

While rummaging around in Knotting Matters (issue 60, Summer '98) I found this odd little knot (submitted by Owen Nuttal) that requires spilling to complete. I can't find much info online except for this video in which the poster neglects to complete the capsizing/spilling part of the process.

I'm not sure I'll ever use it but it's an interesting curio nonetheless.

Any Love for the Knute Hitch?

This knot must have existed for ages but was, apparently, only named by Brion Toss in 1990.

To me, it's one of those knots that's impressive in its simplicity.

Does anyone here use it?

New 27mm Mini Mandrels

Here are 2 new, smaller mandrels (3 bight and 4 bight) that will be suitable for every knot in Don Burrhus's Globe Knot Cookbook. I may go smaller again for smaller cord.

Brain Teaser

As it's a little quiet in here (because normal people are enjoying a sunny weekend), here's another quiz for the knerds. I found this strangely tied knot today so I thought I'd tie it and post it for your puzzlement.

Name this knot (naming the constituent parts does not count as a win).

SOLVED! Well done to u/hyart. It is >ABoK 500, the mohair knot or queensbury knot.!<

Sonobe Books?

Hey all.

What books would you good people recommend that are focusing on, or at least featuring chapters on, Sonobe modules? I have tried searching but I'm obviously not doing a very good job.

Cheers!

Key Fob and Lanyard

Two requests from workmates: "Make me a red one" and "I want a long one".

Double loop, double diamond in purple and a wide diamond with monkey's fist in red.

No ends, no melts, no mess.

Brain Teaser

OK knot knerds, here's a little teaser for you. Pictured is the front and back of a neat little loop. What is it?

EDIT: I should add that I'm certainly not claiming any expertise on this knot as I only found it today!

This is now solved and the answer is ABoK 1036

We Need to Talk About 1450

Following on from this post which, in turn, was following on from this post, there seems to be some interest in this knot which the eagle-eyed Which_Worker_9842 identified as possibly ABoK1450.

The problem is that Ashley's instructions don't seem to result in his pictured knot. I've attached instructions (with the red line) that I think work but, not knowing what the back of Ashley's knot should look like I can't say for sure. I do know that the back of my version matches the back of the knot in the referenced posts though.

What do people think?

Experimental Lanyard

In response to this post, I experimented with how I thought it could be done securely enough to keep keys/knife/bottle opener on and came up with a quick 'n' easy extended scaffold knot with the two ends fused (yes, I melted something!) and hidden inside the knot. Just make sure the join isn't on the sliding part.

It's not groundbreaking but it is neat.

Cutters Handle Re-Wrap

My cutters were becoming some sort of hideous biohazard so I treated them to a new outfit.

Norton Knot Lighter Wrap

I thought I'd wrap my cheapie lighter after seeing a lovely Norton knot on a lighter in this post.

This is based on a 15L4B Turk's head and tied in 3/16" whipmaker's cord over some thin rubber griptape to avoid slippage.
