Wisteria sinensis
I wouldn't have planted it along the front verandah, as the previous owners did, but the view from my bedroom window is magical. I prune it heavily in summer to prevent it damaging the house. It's not a problem weed in my part of Australia.
Miffy & Emmi amongst the plum trees
I took this photo of my nieces' retired ponies on 19/9/25, so they're now a year older. They live at my sister & her husband's farm in SE Australia & haven't been ridden in over a decade.
Kowhai/Sophora tetraptera, national flower of New Zealand.
Kowhai is Maori for yellow. This dazzling small tree is seldom grown in Australia. The flowers are sought out by honeyeater birds.
The view from my bedroom window
Narcissus 'Tete a Tete', with Acacia decora in the background, SE Australia 29/8/26
Narcissus 'Thalia', currently flowering in my garden, SE Australia
Sparaxis elegans
Growing between stone steps in my SE Australia garden. It's native to SW South Africa, classified as 'vulnerable' in the wild.
Because you can never have too much turquoise jewellery...
Australian native hoverfly on Rhodanthemum hosmariense (Moroccan daisy)
Estella
Estella in the garden & catching up on her garden reading. I've snuck in a photo of my nieces' retired ponies Miffy & Emmy under the plum trees.
Australian native bee
I don't know what species this tiny bee, less than 1cm long, is. 'Fruhlingsmorgen' ('Spring Morning') is, appropriately, the first to flower in my garden. Taken 19 October 2025.
Honey bee & Crocus sieberi 'Violet Queen'
Taken on 2 July. C. sieberi, from the mountains of Crete, is the first to bloom in my SE Australian garden.
Salvia karwinskii
From the forests of Central America. It's growing between the house & water tank, where it survived -4°C this winter in SE Australia. It's over 2 m tall.
Abeliophyllum distichum
A relative of forsythia, this honey-scented, smallish shrub is endangered in its native Korea. Taken today in my garden in SE Australia.
