"Boy or girl?" Right on my own driveway.

My 17yo son and I were on our driveway this morning rotating tires on our car. Holding torque wrenches, covered in brake dust, totally minding our business.

We live on an older street with no sidewalks. An older lady walking down the road locks eyes with me, turns 90 degrees, and marches straight up my private driveway.

I figured she was lost or needed directions, so I paused, assuming she needed help.

Instead, she gets right in front of me, looks me up and down, and asks:

"Are you a boy or a girl?"

No "hello." No "excuse me."

I’m a trans woman. I was dumbfounded. I froze for about three seconds at the sheer audacity, then held her gaze and said:

"I'm a girl."

She makes the most skeptical face imaginable, goes "...Okay," spins on her heel, and walks back down the driveway like she just completed a daily side quest.

My son and I just stood there in frozen disbelief until he broke the silence: "What the fuck was that?"

You expect weird looks out in public, but being interrogated on your own private property is on a whole different level of bizarre.
