Daisy, The Great And Powerful Huntress

Daisy the Hero of Florence Street has made the backyard safe from all squirrel invasions. I am honestly shocked on account of she’s neither fast nor agile nor particularly bright. Even so, RIP squirrel.

She didn’t seem to have eaten it or anything. My Brave And Fearless Hunting Dog has eaten her dinner, drank from the toilet, had a treat, and has now claimed her usual spot on the sofa for a thrilling evening of snoring and farting.

This is the first time we’ve seen this behavior. Is this something that can be discouraged? I’m thinking this the cost of living with a predator bestie. My daughter is horrified by both Daisy’s behavior and my attitude about it. I defer to the wise dog people here to set me straight!

Help me love knitting socks

I am a fairly experienced knitter. I have knit socks before.

I really love hand knit socks and I want to wear them all the time. But for whatever reason I CANNOT get started this time around. I have no patience, I can’t see what I’m doing, I fully dread those tiny-ass needles - what the actual f*CK is my problem? I have a nice bright light in my knitting corner in my living room, I’ve got a pile of books, I’ve got pretty sock yarn I’ve had for ten years or so, directions for toe up or cuff down, everything I need to be as successful as possible, or so I thought.

Once upon a time, when my oldest was two (like sixteen years ago), I knit them a lil pair of actually perfect socks. I was so proud of myself! They fit perfectly (I used to try them on as they slept, clever me), and they wore those socks until they were un-repair-able. I felt great about that!

Where is the joy of socks now? What is wrong with me?

Proper procedure for asking to share out-of-print patterns

So I am looking for a filet crochet pattern pamphlet that is out of print. It is present in Ravelry’s pattern database, and several people have made projects out of this pamphlet and posted their FO’s.

This pamphlet is apparently not available in any library in the state of Connecticut, nor is it available in the Internet Archive.

Is it rude, boundary-violating, tacky or Simply Not Done to reach out to those people to see if they’d be willing to send a paper copy of this pattern in the mail, if I send an old-school self addressed stamped envelope? Or maybe take some good pictures and send them electronically?

Worth a try, welcomed or discouraged?

this is a finishing question. Weave in ends and THEN block? Or block first and THEN weave in ends?

Just as it says in the title - I just now finished the final row of a project that has taken me five YEARS to finish. (Don’t get excited - it wasn’t a complicated project at all! It was super easy. I’m just, um, actually not a great finisher, I lost the project for a while, I lost my place and had a tantrum, I rescued it from dogs, cats and my own crippling neuroses. it is a miracle I’ve managed to get this far. But here we are.)

I looked in the FAQ, which had a really helpful link about blocking. That will come in handy after I finish binding off. But I have a shitload of ends to weave into this shawl (again, not fancy or complicated), and I suspect a couple weak spots where the yarn might have frayed apart? So I can’t figure out if I do ends first and then block, or block first, then ends.

I am ready for your wise guidance!!

Wow! Look at this!

My lovely daughter got me fancy pink ink for Mother’s Day (how thoughtful!) - but I thought I needed an elegant and ladylike pen for it. I was right!

As you can clearly see, me, Daisy, I am a Very Good Girl (seen here talking directly to God, obviously.) But today was a big confuse and I think I need a pawyer.

Mommo is totally my best friend, right? besides Man? Who is also my best friend. But GirlGirl is my best friend! She does walkies every every day, even when it’s all watery outside. I love GirlGirl even though she hugs me a little tight and makes weird squealy noises in my face and wants to give me too many kisses. But GirlGirl is The Best. Love her.

So it’s, like, dinner time o’clock? And GirlGirl says to Mommo and Man, hey where is the worlds best dog, Daisy?

And GirlGirl looks around…I’m not in crate, I’m not on sofa, I’m not in mommo’s bed, I’m not in the bortroom and not outside. GirlGirl does a little cry, then she does a big BIG cry and a whoosh whoosh can’t breathe sound? Because she thinks- no Daisy! Where is the Very Best Dog? And that is terrible, I know right?

And Mommo keeps saying my name? But I don’t know why. Because I was just in my dinnertime spot under the kitchen table, doing a patient! Then Mommo sees me and says “GirlGirl. Stop the big cry. Look!” And Mommo laughs so hard SHE does a lil cry! And GirlGirl does a big mad at Mommo - and says lots of language words!!

BUT! Also languages at me! And worse! here is why I need a pawyer!

GirlGirl did not share ANY dinner. Not even a tiny bite. And it was PIZZA!! How long, by law, can GirlGirl be mad at me, who is clearly Very Good Always? I don’t think she can legally not share her dinner just cuz I do her a lil scare! I was in the apropee…paproper…right place the whole time, GirlGirl just THOUGHT I was disappeared!! (I love GirlGirl, she’s real pretty but not real smart.)

Mommo says I should apawlogize but I was not a Bad Girl. GirlGirl still won’t even hug me too tight or make those squealy sounds or give me too much kisses. Can I soo for Recovery of Frendness? Maybe I should just sit on her.

What you think, very smart and good frends?
