Any tips on how to be successful with this plant? I don’t have soil (never realized i needed that until it was too late) only sand so i’ll have to rely on root tabs until I decide to reset the tank.

Tried RedRoot Floaters, but they didn’t take, some had growth but they were dwindling faster than growing so currently looking at other plant options.

Haven’t found a driftwood I like the shape of yet.

Everyone is getting along, so that’s good and the Neon Tetras are holding up surprisingly well. Discus seem to like them, sometimes they’ll go down to the sand and be there while the dithers swim around.

In the meantime put my Chinese Fisherman on the tank and found a Chinese Hand Fan at Goodwill with a poem from the 8th century Tang Dynasty and decided to put it behind the fisherman. Put my Japanese frogs on the lightbar and then turned on my neon signs (Japanese and Korean).

Saw this Silver Gourami at the local LFS and was obsessed. (did not buy him though).

Just got these Red Roots delivered today. Roughly 50 from an 80 count order were viable in my opinion … but i am new to this. So with the ones I selected, docthese look like they will survive? I have them in QT now.

9 Neon Tetras (needed cardinals but got gifted these, will keep an eye on them)

I’d say for putting the dither fish in today, everything is going well, the Discus definitely became more active, they bickered a more frequently, they still laid eggs, investigated the dithers multiple times.

Starting plant journey slowly but surely lol get 80 RedRoot Floaters on Tuesday.

Anybody elses discus like to pancake glide across the surface? She only does this whenever I turn the filter off for water changes lol she tends to be the most curious one of the bunch lol

Soon i’ll add the community 😭 I was gifted the wrong kind of tetra (my fault) but im hoping once I adjust everything it’ll be fine, so far they’re adjusting beautifully.

Sand issue has practically resolved, just very very little left, hardly noticeable. I vaccumed the sand and went lights off for a few days with light feeding, I bought a light riser. And felt the shorter way was still too close to the tank so I did it the long way and Believe it or not, this is my light brightness at just 2% white, so im sure blasting the light at a higher percent was the culprit. Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions. imI do have Sterbai, Tetras and Threadfin Rainbow fish in Quarantine to add to the tank soon.

How do i control this? Idk where I went wrong 😭 im currently quarantining tetras and rainbowfish so i can’t get sterbai without restarting the full quarantine. I’ve added a 2nd filter for bottom flow, i added seachem phosguard and Api phos/silicate remover and vacuum the top layer constantly. My parameters are good so idk what’s going in 😭

How do you guys keep your sand clean?? Idk what happened in the last few days that I’m constantly having to vaccum the sand… i know a normal amount is expected, but it comes back practically overnight and and makes it look like I went months without cleaning. I tried to do a 50% water change but it didnt work.
