Male or Female?
Hello! I'm trying to figure out if these are male and female. Pics are cloudy because they are in my quarantine right now.
Any idea? They're juvenile, I believe. They're about 1.25" to 1.5" long.

Any idea? They're juvenile, I believe. They're about 1.25" to 1.5" long.
To start, it's a senior fish, don't remember how long I've had it, a couple years at least, but it's grown to around 6 inches long. Came home from work today and noticed blood spots and white sores all over it. I don't think it's ich, I've seen ich, plus no other fish have any signs. The Gourami is acting normal, there's no fighting in the tank that I've seen. Been about 2.5 weeks since last clean/water change. What could be wrong with this guy.
This is mars, a dwarf gourami I've had since February of this year and the first fish I got after coming back to the hobby. When I got him I assumed he was already at a mature age considering his size, coloring and the fact that he started making bubble nests a few weeks after settling in.
The tank is a 15 gallon planted tank as seen in the 2nd photo. I have no means of testing the parameters as test kits are very expensive where I'm from, and I'm just a highschool student who lives with his family.
In the case that this is actually DGIV, what's the best course of action? Should I let mars live out the rest of his days peacefully? Or should I euthanize when he seems to start struggling to perform his usual behaviors?
On a side note I was planning to redo the whole tank (plants and hardscape wise) before I head of to college, and I hoped that I would have mars as a semi long-term habitant, but I fear that after seeing the dreaded spot on his head, this may no longer be the case.
All advice and criticism is welcome, thank you greatly
Hi all, hope you are good. Just looking for some thoughts.
Ive had this Honey Gourami now for around 3 days and for the most part he is doing well. Quite inquisitive, doesn't hide much and isn't afraid of people coming to the tank, he's also eating.
He is settling down and for a large portion of the day he's just swimming around but for half an hour yesterday and today he is just glass surfing like in the video. I know the side looks very reflective just he does it even with a black screen on the side.
I know he could just still be settling but wondered what others though as he is my first honey gourami.
My parameters are:
20 Gallon tank, PH 7.3, GH 9, KH 4, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10-20 so I don't think its parameters, in the video the Chilli and Phoenix Rasboras are quite stationary towards the bottom but they're normally fine and swimming together at the top, the video was just taken towards the end of the day and this is where they sleep.
Any advice from those Gourami owners would be much appreciated.
He’s got this white bump on his head. Seems to be behaving normally though
My fish has been doing circles on his reflection for most of the day. Is he playing with his reflection? He's aggressive even to other Buenos Aires tetras and I had to move him to out of my 29 gallon tank to a 3 gallon tank a couple weeks ago. He's in there with a few corys and that's it. I don't think he's very happy about it but he was terrorizing my other tetras and barbs.
Hi reddit. Can someone tell me if this is a female or male? Size is still kinda small. TIA
In the first 3 pics is the gourami that i bought yesterday and i'm really hoping that it's a female
and in the last is the one i bought almost a month ago, and to me it looks like a male!
He’s in a 29 with sawbwa resplendens and bronze corys
Should I get more plants?
My filter is red and the filter it looking a bit gunky but I know you're not supposed to replace it so what should i do?
Is this to many fish in thr tank ot could I add 2 more yellow gourami?
I’ve been wanting to get a honey gourami since my tank finished cycling. Specifically the red ones since thats the one i saw (they all sold out the next time i went wth). Since i’m still waiting i was wondering if theres anything i should know or learn about them before and after getting it.
Also check out this buttless op gourami i saw
I have a 15 gallon fluval flex and i can say its pretty well planted. Currently i have 5 green shrimp (not started breeding yet), 1 amano, 4 micro crabs and a few snails. Im hoping the plants provide enough surface area for everyone to be safe.
Besides the gourami, im planning to also get 3-6 pygmy corys, 3 kuhli loaches and im stuck between getting male endlers or ricefish or both
I think this is female, I know I have a male worried about having two males in the tank
I got this Pearl thinking its a male. But now wondering if its a female because of the short finnage.
I got these two honey gouramis about 2.5 weeks ago I’m not sure about the sex (if anyone could identify would be great thxs!) but lately within the last few days I’ve noticing one of them chasing the other one away especially when it’s feeding time. I’m sure it’s territorial behavior but what can I do so they can get along or just better the situation in general I don’t want them stressed.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Some other info about my tank:
- did a fishless cycle everything my has been good in terms of water parameters
- it’s a 10 gallon planted tank
- I have 3 cherry shrimp and 3 amano shrimp, the one who keeps chasing the other seems to have no issues with the shrimp even when the shrimp take some of the fish flakes sometimes
- also I don’t have another tank to separate them atm this is my first tank and only tank right now
Its about 1 inch or less.
Also is it possible to gender at this size?
The lsf said theyll try to gender, I asked for a male if possible
I bought her thursday and she had an osmotic shock after introducing her into the aquarium (i acclimatised her accordingly)
She had a shock and kept spinning in circles 30 minutes after i put her in the tank.
I moved her in a separate bowl for 24h, in complete darkness and left her like that to gain a little bit of strenght.
Friday at around 8pm i acclimatised her again and introduced her in the aquarium again.
She looked a bit better but still layed on the substrate breathing slowly.
I left her like that for 2 days, and when i came back home i found her swimming normally, but occasionally laying on the substrate barely breathing..
I'm really trying to save her but can she be saved? I introduced a male gourami the same way and he's more than happy and healthy...
Please give me any tips you can.

I have a 20 gallon tank with 6 chilis and 5 green neons. I want to expand the chilis to 10 at least when they’re back in stock (am waiting since December!).
I’ve had two honeys before. One was always hunting my shrimp, even juveniles weren’t safe. I gave him to my dad. The other one was always hiding and died with dropsy :(. I have since bought a UV sterilizer as well. I’d like to give a honey gourami another go but am so in doubt if it’s a , not overstocked and b , if I accidentally get one that’s also a hunter… I’d also love a female betta (no gourami in that case) but I am afraid that’s ever more of a gamble.
do you think it’s a 50% chance they will hunt shrimp , or was it just bad luck?
