Damage after 20k race with the Hoka Cielo x1 3.0

I bought these shoes for a 20k race in Brussels. I tried them the week prior (13k with 6x1k @ 3.45/km) I felt a couple hot spots but other than that my feet were fine.

I didn’t notice anything during the race, but I ended up with 5-6 blisters and a black toe nail. This has never happened to me before.

I got them in my usual running shoe size (1 size up from my street shoes)

Question: I really enjoyed the ride, the midsole felt great. In your experience is there a chance that they could fit in another size or should I just give up on the Cielos ?

Thanks
