On 27/08/1996, around midday, reports emerged across several countries in the Amazon region describing dark streaks projecting upward into the sky. The structures appeared to oscillate slowly from side to side, as if searching for or probing something above the atmosphere.

The filaments lingered for hours, scanning the skies, before disappearing in the early hours of the following day.

As the filaments drifted across the sky, it began to glow in multiple colors, forming a phenomenon similar to an aurora. The luminous effect gradually spread across the equatorial region, roughly following the same latitude as the Null Vortex.

MISSION SVET was a joint Soviet-Brazilian orbital operation launched in 1996 with the objective of conducting the first controlled overflight of the Null Vortex above the Amazon rainforest.

Using the Buran-II spacecraft and the analog SIRFAE-100 optical system, the mission attempted to obtain visual records of the phenomenon’s core and identify the occurrence designated ZZ-001.

Este mapa faz parte de um projeto de construção de mundo e horror cósmico que venho desenvolvendo há muitos anos. Agora, decidi começar a publicar imagens, vídeos e mapas desse universo.

Como eu gosto de geopolítica, quis explorar como um evento anômalo de escala global poderia remodelar fronteiras, doutrinas estratégicas e a segurança regional dentro de uma Guerra Fria alternativa.

Contexto do mapa

Tudo começa em 26 de maio de 1988, com o início da Crise do Vórtice Nulo. Essa crise teve início com uma emissão de origem desconhecida em 1,420 GHz na floresta amazônica, causando um colapso global nas comunicações e na infraestrutura elétrica, interrompendo redes terrestres, satélites, estações orbitais e até mesmo instalações lunares.

Na data representada pelo mapa(1994), seis anos após o início do fenômeno, a área da emissão tornou-se um verdadeiro “ponto cego” físico, motores param, sistemas eletrônicos falham e satélites não conseguem registrar nada além de manchas escuras e um sistema permanente de tempestades.

Em 1994, o Brasil que nesta linha temporal já era uma potência global e nuclear, consolidou uma estrutura de segurança em camadas na região, dividida entre zonas de exclusão, contenção e vigilância. O objetivo era impedir incursões estrangeiras, sobretudo dos EUA e da URSS; conter o avanço das entidades(criaturas colossais que habitavam a Zona de Exclusão e cuja existência, até então, era conhecida apenas pelo alto escalão do governo federal brasileiro e pelas Forças Armadas) e manter controle estratégico sobre o que restava da área afetada.

A Guiana Francesa já havia sido integrada ao Brasil no final dos anos 1980, por meio de referendo durante a longa crise colonial francesa e o agravamento da Crise do Vórtice Nulo. Esse foi um dos primeiros grandes realinhamentos territoriais da região nesta linha temporal.

Enquanto isso, a União Soviética atuando diplomaticamente por meio da Venezuela, e os Estados Unidos/Europa passaram a pressionar o Brasil para permitir investigações internacionais sobre o fenômeno, pois ambos acusam o Brasil de esconder algum tipo de arma secreta ou tecnologia experimental.

Temendo uma escalada militar, incursões estrangeiras e a desestabilização regional, Suriname e Essequibo solicitaram, em 1992, integração autônoma à federação brasileira. O objetivo não era anexação completa, mas proteção estratégica. O acordo foi considerado uma medida temporária, não uma união permanente ou anexação.

Internamente o Brasil nessa linha do tempo também passou por uma reorganização federativa. O estado do Tapajós ja havia sido criado em 1956, com Santarém como capital. Em 1990 com o agravamento da crise amazônica, a integração da Guiana Francesa foi oficializada com a criação do estado do Oiapoque, tendo a cidade de Caiena como capital.

No mesmo processo, o antigo Pará adotou oficialmente o nome Grão-Pará, recuperando uma designação histórica para reforçar sua centralidade política, portuária e estratégica na foz amazônica.

Por fim em 1992 Manaus foi elevada à condição de Capital Estratégica da Amazônia, centralizando a gestão militar, científica e logística de toda a região afetada pela Crise do Vórtice Nulo.

Description

The region known as the Great Filter Zone was first identified during the initial Brazilian Army incursion into the Amazon Exclusion Zone in 1988, while advancing toward the presumed origin point of the Signal.

SP-001 structures begin appearing at heights of roughly 500 meters (1,640 feet). From elevated observation points, several formations exceeding one kilometer (0.62 miles) in height can be seen along the horizon.

Each structure consists of a massive basal formation supporting a large spherical body perforated by numerous cavities. Some of these openings are estimated to extend more than 200 meters (656 feet) inward. From these cavities emerge long filament-like appendages, which sweep the surrounding area near the base of the structure, collecting dead organic matter and biological residue.

Under specific atmospheric and environmental conditions, these filament structures have been observed extending vertically into the upper cloud layers. Long-range optical analysis suggests that, in rare cases, the fully extended appendages of larger SP-001 structures may surpass 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) in total height from ground level.

SP-001 entities are not considered aggressive. Monitoring teams and military personnel have been able to approach several of the structures at close range. However, no physical samples have ever been successfully recovered. The external plates covering the basal formations are extremely resistant; every tool or cutting device used in extraction attempts was either damaged or rendered inoperable.

Unlike most other entity classes, SP-001 does not produce loud vocalizations or low-frequency resonant emissions. Instead, it emits a faint, high-pitched sound that is almost imperceptible at a distance. Prolonged exposure to this sound has been associated with increased stress, fatigue, disorientation, and cognitive confusion among personnel operating in the area.

Due to their passive behavior, the F.N.P.A. was able to construct long-range monitoring towers near the perimeter of the Great Filter Zone. These installations remain essential for tracking Skafo residue accumulation, environmental degradation, and the movement patterns of larger entities within the Amazon Exclusion Zone.

Advance of AB-088 entities observed by an F.N.P.A. patrol team - F.N.P.A. being the Portuguese acronym for Força Nacional de Proteção da Amazônia / Amazon National Protection Force - over the Purus River, in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, on 31/10/1996.

The entities were recorded moving toward the REIS-III radar system region, located near BR-319 km 300. REIS-III is a long-range monitoring and radar surveillance system used to detect anomalous activity inside and around the Amazon Exclusion Zone.

Description

Entity AB-088 is characterized by the emission of sounds similar to the buzzing of a mosquito, followed by a deep and resonant vocalization with strong echo characteristics.

As observed with most Skafo-class entities, the sounds emitted by the entity may cause nausea, disorientation, and mental confusion in humans exposed for prolonged periods.

AB-088 entities demonstrate extremely territorial behavior, attacking other entities, wild forest animals, and human structures. The only exception recorded so far involves Katargis-class entities (Katargis being another class of anomalous entity within this setting) toward which AB-088 has shown no direct hostility.

The entity possesses extraordinary physical resistance. Conventional weaponry causes little to no effective damage to its external shell. After prolonged saturation attacks conducted by the F.N.P.A. (Força Nacional de Proteção Amazônica / Amazonian National Protection Force), the Brazilian Army on multiple occasions, and in two recorded incidents by the Soviet Army in southern Venezuela, only superficial fractures and localized cracks were observed on the entity’s outer structure.

The first known audiovisual record of entity AB-088 occurred on 05/26/1988. During the incident, REIS-III system technician Paulo Sobrinho experienced a vehicle malfunction caused by the effects of the Alpha Signal. Seconds later, he was attacked by an AB-088 entity.

AB-088 entities rarely appear alone. They are normally observed in groups of at least five individuals. They are most frequently found within the Amazon Exclusion Zone - AEZ; however, groups occasionally leave the zone and advance into the Amazon Containment Zone. In extremely rare cases, incursions into the Surveillance Zone have been recorded.

Whenever AB-088 entities are detected outside the AEZ, preventive evacuations of nearby regions and long-range observation procedures are carried out when necessary. If the advance represents a direct threat to strategic areas or civilian populations, conventional long-range artillery may be deployed with the objective of delaying the entities’ movement.

The only exception recorded so far involves Katargis-class entities(Katargis being another class of anomalous entity within this setting) toward which AB-088 has shown no direct hostility.

The entity possesses extraordinary physical resistance. Conventional weaponry causes little to no effective damage to its external shell. After prolonged saturation attacks conducted by the F.N.P.A. (Força Nacional de Proteção Amazônica / Amazonian National Protection Force), the Brazilian Army on multiple occasions, and in two recorded incidents by the Soviet Army in southern Venezuela, only superficial fractures and localized cracks were observed on the entity’s outer structure.

The first known audiovisual record of entity AB-088 occurred on 05/26/1988. During the incident, REIS-III system technician Paulo Sobrinho experienced a vehicle malfunction caused by the effects of the Alpha Signal. Seconds later, he was attacked by an AB-088 entity.

AB-088 entities rarely appear alone. They are normally observed in groups of at least five individuals. They are most frequently found within the Amazon Exclusion Zone - AEZ; however, groups occasionally leave the zone and advance into the Amazon Containment Zone. In extremely rare cases, incursions into the Surveillance Zone have been recorded.

Whenever AB-088 entities are detected outside the AEZ, preventive evacuations of nearby regions and long-range observation procedures are carried out when necessary. If the advance represents a direct threat to strategic areas or civilian populations, conventional long-range artillery may be deployed with the objective of delaying the entities’ movement.

This map is part of a worldbuilding and cosmic horror project I've been developing. As a geopolitics enthusiast, I decided to explore how an anomalous event on a global scale could reshape borders, strategic doctrines, and regional security in an alternate Cold War.

Context Map:

It all begins on May 26, 1988, with the start of the Null Vortex Crisis. This crisis began with an emission of unknown origin at 1.420 GHz from the Amazon rainforest, causing a global collapse in communications and electrical infrastructure, disrupting terrestrial networks, satellites, orbital stations, and even lunar installations.

Today, six years after the phenomenon began, the area of ​​the emission is a physical 'blind spot': engines stop, electronics fail, and satellites can't register anything but dark spots and a constant storm system. In 1994, Brazil, which in this timeline is a global power, consolidated layered security in the region (exclusion, containment, and surveillance) to prevent foreign incursions and maintain total control over what remains of the region.

French Guiana had already been integrated into Brazil through a referendum during the French colonial crisis of the 20th century, becoming one of the first examples of territorial realignment in the region in this timeline.

The Soviet Union, acting diplomatically through Venezuela, and the United States/Europe began to pressure Brazil to allow international investigations into the phenomenon, as both accused Brazil of hiding some kind of secret weapon. Fearing an escalation, foreign incursions, and regional destabilization, Suriname and Essequibo requested autonomous integration into the Brazilian federation in 1992.
