i watched every PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, and i was wrong about all of them

In May 2027 James Wan is rebooting Paranormal Activity. Which is wild, because for 14 years I was certain these movies were trash — and last week I sat down and watched all 7. Plus the one almost nobody talks about.

This is a look at how the most maligned found footage franchise in horror history stayed fresh for 14 years by refusing to be the same movie twice — and what the 2027 reboot might do with what it's been handed.

Chapters:
0:00 - I was wrong about all of them
2:45 - The mutation (what makes this franchise weird)
4:00 - Paranormal Activity (2007)
6:00 - Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
7:30 - Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
9:00 - Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)
11:00 - The Marked Ones (2014)
13:30 - The Ghost Dimension (2015)
16:00 - Next of Kin (2021)
19:00 - BONUS: PA2: Tokyo Night (2010)
21:02 - SHOULD YOU WATCH IT roundup
23:53 - What James Wan is inheriting

Ever afraid you're being watched while you sleep?

Making this LoFi horror game called 'Project Looking Glass'. You explore dozens of creepy and liminal spaces trying to uncover the mystery of what happened to you. Been using my dreams (nightmares) a lot as inspiration since most of the levels are little vignettes like this. Got amazing feedback last time I posted so wanted to share more!

A cabin, a warning sign, and something that doesn’t stop knocking — I made a short found-footage horror film

I’ve always loved the idea that found-footage horror works best when it commits to a simple rule and escalates it slowly rather than relying on effects.

So I tried making a short film that stays entirely within that approach.

The setup is minimal:
a man rents a remote cabin for a quiet weekend… and finds a handwritten warning on the door:

“DON’T OPEN AFTER SUNSET.”

What follows is a gradual breakdown of normalcy — subtle sounds under the floor, knocking that escalates over time, and the sense that something is responding more than just reacting.

I intentionally kept it small-scale:

  • one location
  • one character
  • sound-driven tension instead of visual effects

It’s about 6 minutes long. I’m still refining my approach to pacing and sound design in this style, so I’d genuinely appreciate feedback from people who enjoy the genre.

Here’s the film:

Just finished Stickman's Hollow and am pleasantly surprised.

It held my attention really well, and had a genuinely creepy payoff. Though it was hard for me to feel bad for Alice because she was supremely stupid. Still, very enjoyable ff film.

MR.MEALZ — Short Horror Film Teaser

Hey everyone!

Some of you might have seen a glimpse of this teaser before, but I’m officially restarting my channel and giving this project the proper launch it deserves. I’m basically starting from scratch, so I would deeply appreciate any support, likes, or feedback on this new journey!

MR.MEALZ is a horror project set in my own original universe. For upcoming video, the main genres are found footage and analog horror. My main focus here is on deep worldbuilding and expanding the lore. Visually, I’m combining 2D and 3D animation to fully immerse the viewer into the creepy aesthetic of the company.

I’ve got a lot of thoughts and projects in the works right now, so expect plenty of content in the future. My other upcoming works will explore different themes, focusing heavily on horror and the uncanny.

Check out the teaser here: https://youtu.be/PPdL5WpD210?si=y2qxianWArHe6DcG

Would love to hear your first thoughts or theories in the comments! Thanks for checking it out.

Any FF's with legit good acting?

I love found footage and will literally watch any of them, but I'm starting to wish they'd cast these things based on skills and actual screen presence. I've just about had enough of the casts being basically the neckbeard director and their friends. So, what are some with topnotch, real film acting?

What FF movies let you down?

I always see a list of everyones favorites.

But I want the ones that you went in excited, and came out disappointed.

I have three:

It doesnt get any better than this (2023)

The Last Cabin (2025)

Skinamarink (2022)*** Not really found footage? Adjacent though?

Could be because the first two I saw articles hyping it up, "rare" movie screening, once in a year screening, cant watch online ! etc etc.

And then I see it and the acting is very poor, characters were written poorly/to be intentionally annoying or antagonistic, and overall bland story line.

I loved Skinamarink and also was let down by it. Watched it 3 times, could be a me thing though. I fell asleep watching it because at some point it became too long, too quiet, and I felt too warm on the sofa....but it captures nightmares so genuinely well. :(

Don’t sleep on What Happened To Dorothy Bell?

I’ve been a huge fan of ff for years and have loved the classics that are often mentioned on this sub.

I haven’t seen What Happened To Dorothy Bell? mentioned yet - or at least while I’m browsing. Honestly, it was a random Tubi flick I decided to put on after shutting off 2 other movies.

It’s not 10/10 but good enough to keep me watching and spooked at times! If you’ve seen it already I’d love to hear your thoughts or a /10 rating

Without Warning (1994 tv film)

The full movie is available for free on YouTube. I don't want to end up spoiling this movie so I'll try to sell the idea to you all:

The film involves a simulation of watching a news channel broadcast the events following an asteroid falling to earth, many claiming it's an alien. The direction of the film is fairly realistic with the acting, the writing, the way it's filmed, kudos to the film as well for finding early small actors for many of the roles to sell the illusion better, even having a real journalist play himself.

The movie was inspired (but not based on) Orson Welles War of the worlds, the movie having been released on the anniversary of the radio broadcast.

If you're a sucker for borderline sci-fi films where you're confllicted on what's going on, long built up i'd say it's a good watch.
