Horror In the High Desert sound issues

I'm currently on a short found footage binge, and ended up watching Horror in the High Desert.

I am currently halfway in the movie and I've got to vent a little. The soundtrack, or what is supposed to be the soundtrack, is really low quality electronic music. I'm not really a fan of these cheap soundtracks, but I kind off understand how it fits the movie's tv-documentary style. The real issue is that the soundtrack is way too loud, it often drowns out the voices of characters currently talking. I'm honestly a little baffled that they released it like this.

Perilous Tales: a murder investigation turns very sinister

A series of disappearances led Detective Matthew Harrelson and Detective Lara Shepherd to suspect the involvement of a local meth gang. They were very much surprised when a pair of federal agents, agent Foster and agent Merle, insisted on joining them when they went to the dilapidated house where the gang was known to hide.

Upon arriving to the house it quickly became apparent that more than just 'regular murder' was going on. Agent Merle was the first to approach the house, only to be ambushed by a gang member that had been sleeping off a bender in the gang's parked car. Merle's shotgun made quick work of that and the investigators gingerly continued their search for clues. Then all hell broke loose. An indescribable creature emerged and cut down agent Merle. Detective Harrelson was clearly not cut out for this kind of work and he cowardly ran back to the vehicle. Detective Shepherd triggered a booby trap, and went down with minor injuries. Only agent Foster was left to deal with the monster, but her agency had instructed her that collecting evidence was enough (for now). Agent Foster managed to take a few pictures of the creature before she retreated, reaching the vehicle just as detective Shepherd scrambled to her feet and bolted to the vehicle as well.

Detective Harrelson had already climbed behind the steering wheel and the van drove off with screeching tires. The investigation was a success: evidence was collected, but the bloody corpse of agent Merle served as a grim reminder that something very dark was happening.

Agent Foster emailed her evidence to her superiors, and the very same night an explosion destroyed the meth gang's house. The official explanation was a gas leak, but neighbours interviewed by local news were adamant they had seen a black helicopter overhead just prior to the explosion.

This was my first attempt at playing Perilous Tales and I had a lot of fun. We were lucky that the big enemy boss was actually the second encounter to spawn, as our objective was to gather evidence of his existence. This meant that we did not have to trigger further peril tokens, risking more gang members appearing and joining the fight, or triggering other mishaps.

There was some confusion over how to count victory points at the end: I might have misunderstood some details, but if I am correct it is not possible to score enough points to actually gain a high mark with the 'collect evidence' objective...

Who would be victorious?!?

In a fight between Jason from the Seal Team tv show, or Tyler Rake from the Extraction movies, who would win? I think Tyler.

  1. Tyler is more used to fighting on his own, whereas Jason heavily leans on his teammates.

  2. Tyler seems smarter. Jason lets captain Merrick do all the thinking.

  3. Jason is not used to pushing through adversity. He usually is just a single phone call away from backup or air support.
