Please help/give advice
I live in japan. One day at a store I saw an Atlas beetle, he was bumbling around in his small container. I noticed he was way more active than the others. Flipping over moving the woodchips around. Like the space was too small. I left and came back, he was on his back, and couldn't get up.
I felt bad for him and bought him from the store. For about a week he was very active, scrambling around, moving the little fake plants i put in his container. He seemed fine. 2 days ago he was just sitting in a weird way. But I touched him and he reacted like normal. I picked him up yesterday, let him hang on my arm. He seemed less combative but not sickly. I got home today at 5 and I could hear him moving around in his enclosure. I checked on him at 10 and he was on his back, dead. He had a light brown liquid coming out of his.... butt.
I was shocked. I didn't smell anything super weird. He had food. The temperature reached 90F today, but he was in a dark room away from light. My apartment was a little cooler. I gave him water a day or two ago, though he knocked it over. I sprayed the enclosure a few days ago since I heard they need humidity.
As i was typing this i looked at the substrate I can see some white parts on the very bottom. Was it mold? It looked dry mostly to be honest so I hadn't thought that was it but.... I don't know. Im just really sad. It would have been better if I left him at the watahan. I know I messed up but I already feel guilty. Please just help me figure out what I did wrong. It seemed so sudden!
