We have 3 playoff matches today! At 2PM, one of the Class D North semifinal matches is taking place as #1 Jake Morrill hosts #5 Joe Cultera from Bowl-O-Rama in Portsmouth, NH. Then at 8:30 we have both the Class A South and the Class C North finals taking place at Harvard Lanes. In the Class A match, #1 Charles Collins hosts #3 Tim Douglass and in Class C, #1 Skeeter Bearce hosts #2 Rob Brown. The streams are expected to be on the ACST Facebook page. Today marks that start of the 3-day Mixed World's Candlepin Bowling Tournament being held at Academy Lanes in Haverhill. The format is simple, a one string round robin tournament. Each team must have at least 2 female bowlers in their lineup at all times. Similar to a lot of European soccer leagues, there are no playoffs. The team with the most wins at the end of the round robin wins the title. Check below to see how to watch, the schedule, as well as the team rosters. I want to note for today, the Candlepin Bowling Network YouTube channel will be focusing on alleys 13-14. Also ignore the dates on the schedule. There will be 7 matches today, 10 tomorrow, and 6 Sunday. If there is a tie for first after those 23 matches, a single string rolloff is held to determine the winner.

Both semi-finals matches for Class A South are happening now over on the Atlantic Candlepin Singles Tour Facebook page. In the first match, #1 seed Charles Collins hosts #5 Matt Nichols from Harvard Lanes while the second match has #2 seed Micah Imparato hosting #3 Tim Douglass from Sparetime Recreation.

If you click on VIEW, you can see stats from each completed match as well as the scoresheets. The ones with STREAM have a clickable link to watch the match. There is going to be a double header tonight on the ACST Facebook page (or possibly YouTube) of playoff action. At 5PM we have two TV veterans squaring off when Bruno DeFeo hosts Dave Hodge Mallahan in Class B North quarterfinal action from Academy Lanes. Then at 7:30 from Riverwalk Lanes, world record holder (519) Mark Ricci hosts the first ever ACST champion Nate Lees in Class A North Quarterfinal action.

Hey everyone for those who don’t know the 3 string record for candlepin is 519 and is currently held by Mark Ricci. Tonight on Candlepin Bowling Network at 7pm, Mark will be hosting the first ever Class A ACST champion Nate Lees from Riverwalk Lanes (owned by Mark). Hey everyone, I am looking for some feedback on one of the candlepin bowling streams. What does everyone think of this, good info, not enough, too busy? One of the goals is to provide stats in a way that veteran and newer candlepin fans can enjoy. In the first screen shot the key things to note are - green pins in the top left corner = those that have been knocked down, the box in the bottom middle shows the overall totals (the 2 and 0 are for points won, win a string get 2 points) as well as the overall lead, then on the score sheet on the right we have the string totals and then some color coding. Yellow box means its a headpin hit, red circle means its a split.

The second screenshot is of post string. it shows a box by box analysis. Green = knocked down on first ball, yellow = knocked down on second ball, red = knocked down on third ball, grey = left standing.

Finally there are post game stats. Strikes, spares, and 10s should be obvious, HP = headpin hits, SP = splits, BW = boxes won, 1 = average knocked down on first ball, L = pins left standing.

A brief explanation for those not familiar with the ACST:

Across MA and southern NH, there is something called the Atlantic Candlepin Singles Tour. It's an 18 match season of 1v1 bowling split across multiple divisions and multiple alleys. The tour is broken up into different classes, A through E. A is for the top bowlers on the tour, whose averages are typically 112+, Class B is typically 105-112, Class C 95-105, etc. You will notice not everyone fits into these average buckets, but they are determined at the start of the year and then each year the divisions are reassigned. Each match consists of 5 strings where the bowlers alternate bowling 5 boxes at a time, not your typical 2 boxes at a time. Each string is worth 2 points and then total is worth 4 meaning each match can get you total of 14 points. The regular season has just ended and we are starting to see playoff matches.
