Vertical scaling?

The system has horizontal scaling, but is there much/any vertical scaling? If so how's it done? The first time you ever shoot a bow (or gun, etc) your aim probably isn't very good. With experience your aim gets better and more consistent. Even if all other variables are eliminated (wind, humidity, etc) your aim still improves with experience.

Cell-friendly PDF?

I've seen a sample of the core rulebook's PDF. Each pdf page is two book pages. Is this still the case for the most recent pdf? Do they have a pdf that is more friendly for small screens?

I'd much prefer each pdf page be a single book page. I would find that much easier to read (both on small screens and my desktop).

Feels Right In Multiple Settings?

I suspect it would, but would Legend In The Mist have a reasonable feel in all of these settings:

  • A medieval fantasy (in particular Dragonlance or the original D&D cartoon)
  • Feudal Japan
  • Star Wars
  • Xena / Hercules (think campy)

From what I have read I think LitM would suit these well. Thoughts?

Vertically scalability, theme, etc

I have been reading a little bit about Legend In The Mist recently, and I have a few questions that I hope someone might be able to field.

  1. Does it allow for the representation of characters which are much more powerful than others? Like a Balrog in middle-earth, Yoda in Star Wars, or Raistlin Majere in Dragonlance, etc
  2. Does it make all character concepts viable? For example, in D&D a spear-wielding fighter who doesn't use heavy armour, doesn't have very high strength, may not be the most ideal choice.
  3. Does it allow for drawn-out combat when that combat is the Pinnacle of the adventure. When I don't want the characters or the enemy to die too quickly.
  4. How lethal is combat? Can characters reasonably survive over long sessions, but still a sufficient danger to keep things exciting.

From what I've read, it does sound like pretty much any character concept can be viable. I'm not sure about the other questions.

For background I have played a lot of Star Wars D6 (WEG), D&D (various editions back to AD&D), I've dabbled with Pathfinder, Vampire the Masquerade, etc

Hercules and Xena RPG

Has anyone here tried the Hercules and Xena RPG by West End Games (1998)?

I'm familiar with the D6 system from Star Wars. I know how the D6 Legend system changes determining success. Aside from this can anyone tell me how well the D6 system emulates the Hercules and Xena TV episodes? I would assume it fits rather well, has the same "feel"?

I purchased a still in box copy on EBay last night.

Does any system fit this?

I have been toying around with creating my own D6 TTRPG, mostly for the creativity of making my own system. I'm very indecisive, it would either be from medieval fantasy, a Star Wars campaign, or maybe a feudal Japan campaign with hints of fantasy creatures.

Though I wonder if an existing system would suit me well. I think the following is what is most important to me:

  • Any weapon is viable. Perhaps a player wants to use two swords, or a spear, two daggers. Anything is viable. It doesn't necessarily need to provide any mechanical advantage at all.
  • a similar feel to West End Games D6 in regards to their being many skills, not dependent upon level, so you can be good at whatever you want
  • fast / fun combat
  • The ability to get better at skills over time, both by getting better at your current skills, and learning new skills
  • Potentially the players describing in interesting detail is more important than numeric bonuses
  • I'm not worried about attributes, perhaps they need not even exist

For background I played AD&D for years, West End Games D6 Star Wars, a little Vampire the Masquerade, read a little about Mage the Ascension/Awakening, I've the latest Marvel RPG, and played the Marvel RPG that was around in the 90s a few times.

Cobra

I'm deciding between buying the Cobra, Char Futur 4, or the Kunze Panzer. I think I might go Char Futur 4.

I noticed that Skill rates the cobra 5/5, despite him ranking the armour 2/5, gun handling 2.5/5, speed 2/5, and ammunition 1/5. He ranks the Char Futur 4 better on every metric, but overall ranks it slightly worse.

From looking at his rankings, I would think the Char Futur 4 to be the much better tank.

Note: I can't reply to responses due to negative comment karma.
