Question about status tiers to reach Limits

Hi. I'm not sure if I understood the status tier correctly.

If we have a Limit 4, we can defeat it like:

  • Action power 1 (tier 1) + power 1 (tier 2) + power 1 (tier 3) + power 1 (reached limit 4)
  • Action power 3 (tier 3) + power 2 (tier 3) + power 1 (tier 3) + power 3 (reached limit 4)

So... is this correct? A player that barely scratches the status may reach de limit in the same turn that other that is capable to make 2 attacks with power 3? Basically, the second and third actions from the "powerful" character are useless?

Multiple Threats and the Scene Flow Cycle

Hi. I understand Legend in the Mist shares the same DNA as Otherscape, so figured the advice would be applicable.

Here's the issue: What to do with multiple threats? The way Scene Flow Cycle works seems to make it the problem of a single individual each time to address multiple threats with a single action. It's doable, but I think at some point it become a pretty big stretch to be passably successful in doing so.

The way I imagine a single Scene Flow Cycle is thus:

  1. Two PCs are fighting two monsters, the two monsters threaten to slash them
  2. Only one PC gets the Spotlight to deal with the threats, and somehow must figure out to address both threats. PC chooses to just hit one monster
  3. The other monster's threat goes unaddressed and thus brings consequences with the other PC completely unable to prevent the threat from going through

The more challenges you bring, the worse it somehow gets, regardless of the number of PCs present.

So I am convinced that I must be completely misunderstanding how the Scene Flow Cycle works and would really be grateful to be illuminated how it's supposed to work.

Limits to Power spent when Applying Statuses

I've played the Demo of this game and I'm currently playing a duo with my bf, and we have come across a debate. To put plain and simple: is there a limit to how much Power a player can spend to create a status? What is stopping them to simply spend 3 Power to cause harm-3 on a Challenge, potentially "one-shoting" it? How do you guys handle that situation? What am I missing?

Might and Weaknesses

I'm very new to LitM. I'm trying to get a handle on narrating for a party that is converting from DnD at Level 5. The ranger in particular has me wondering on how to navigate his Sharpshooter theme's weakness for close combat. Sharpshooter is his one Adventure tier theme. When Origin tier foes close the distance, does he still get +2 on the situation (+3 might difference, -1 weakness)? The tier difference pretty much overwrites the weakness and could even encourage him to wade into melee combat to earn xp. Perhaps that's not a bad thing and could lead to character changes, but again, I'm really new, so trying to get my head around a very different system.

Using Conversion tool from DnD 5(.5)e, but need advice on gold

Level 5 DnD party is considering switching from DnD to LitM having recently finished Lost Mine of Phandelver. The conversion tool has been very helpful for most aspects, but I'm iffy on the parties combined treasury. They're sitting at around 900 gold currently. The paladin would like to buy plate armor, which costs 1,500 gold. My tentative solution is to grant the party a story tag of Wealth-2, then at Wealth-4 (achieved in maybe 2 to 3 more sessions), the paladin can purchase the armor without making the team destitute, sliding them back to Wealth-1. Does that sound fair?

Investigation Challenge – Discover details vs. advancing a Status?

Hi, I'm planning a short campaign currently which will start out with a little bit of a mystery to solve. I'm thinking of having a Challenge with an "Investigation" limit, which after I will describe what the Heroes can conclude from all the evidence, and leads to follow next.

The thing I'm thinking about is how with a detailed roll, there is already an option to "discover a valuable detail," but if the main status to progress is Investigating, those almost feel like they'd become the same thing in this context. Unless the status is just narrated generally, like "your character finds some clues," where Details tell about specific pieces of evidence, maybe? Though I think it would feel weird to give evidence from a Detail but then not have that mechanically bring them closer to a conclusion.

But how would you handle this sort of situation? And is this even a good premise for a Challenge, or should they just do simple rolls to find bits of evidence individually or something?

UK Shipping?

Hi Folks,

Has there been any update on shipping of pre-orders to the UK yet? I thought it was June, then it was July, but now we are in August and nothing yet.

Thanks

Greatness level play

Relatively new to Legend in the Mist, about to kick off a small campaign for my daughter and a few other kids, but reading through everything has got my brain churning. I'm considering trying to hack another game/setting to work with Legend in the Mist's system, but it would likely entail a lot of Greatness level play - has anyone had experience with players/challenges at this level for a while? Does the system hold up well at that scale over time? Any pitfalls or things to be aware of?

Thanks!

Mist Engine superheroics vs. City of Mist

Hello everyone,

I'm ridiculously in love with the Mist Engine. It's the perfect 'lite' system for me. That said, I'm looking to run a superheroic game in the vein of Aberrant/X-Men/Heroes/Harbinger regarding an emergent superpopulation that may well represent an evolution of homo sapiens. As such, most of the peculiar trappings of City of Mist feel inappropriate, or rather the ostensibly more streamlined Mist Engine feels sufficient.

I usually prefer Champions for my superheroics but the people I'm looking to play with absolutely can’t handle the crunch.

Anyway. I was wondering if anyone had an argument to just use (possibly tweaked) City of Mist instead and/or if there’s a point of using City of Mist Mythoi as inspiration for people on how to set up their powers, seeing as how unlimited choice can be overwhelming. Personally, I think coming up with Themes is half the fun, but some people have a hard time with those.

Chronomancy - Cauldron of Mist

We are officially joining in the fun and dipping our toes in Cauldron of Mist!

"The River of Time flows endlessly onward; those who dare to swim against its current may command the very fabric of moments, but risk drifting away."

Time is a fickle thing, but it is now within reach for your Legend in the Mist game. Temporal manipulation is at the core of this supplement, giving you the tools to bend time to your will.

Any experience using LitM for one shot funnels/gauntlets?

Anyone have experience with or knowledge of LitM being used as a system to run a gauntlet or funnel for groups of 'level 0' characters? And if so, what might have changed? For example, might each player have three characters but each character only has two theme cards for powers?
