Omada 8MP Turret Camera Quality

Omada 8MP Turret Camera Quality

I received these cameras as part of the Pioneer Kit 1 which also included the accompanying NVR with 4TB drive.

Existing Setup

My existing setup has been Amcrest IP8M-T2669E-AI cameras with Scrypted self hosted NVR, tied to HomeKit on iOS. The Amcrest cameras have one-way audio and infrared LEDs.

Hardware

The new Omada cameras, although the same 4K resolution, offer better video quality during the day and excellent night quality in both infrared or color (with white illuminating LEDs). Two way audio is crisp and clear, with no latency even when using ONVIF protocol and Scrypted/HomeKit. Much better audio than the Amcrest cameras. Slightly narrower FOV, but not a huge deal. "Alarm" LEDs (blue and red color/flashing) are neat, but I'm not sure how much I would use them. If my area had a high crime rate I would probably use them as a deterrent.

The mounting system makes the Omada cameras very easy to install. Mount the bracket, then connect the camera and twist to lock, with a single front angle adjustment screw. As you can see in the album, I ended up modifying my brackets so they would line up with the mounting holes on my junction boxes. I wish the world could agree with a standard IP camera mounting hole pattern!

Sofware

I will not be going into the NVR as this post is focusing on the cameras themselves. I did want to highlight that these cameras have their own webUI that CAN be used for configuration. In the current firmware release, there are some disconnects on what you can configure from Fusion, the NVR, vs the camera's own webUI. The webUI is very intuitive and quite fast for an IP camera. The software also has options for the SD Card, such as formatting, and what footage to store on the 512GB max slot. I used a 128GB card and 64GB card for testing with no issues identified. When used with the Fusion gateway with SSD slot, this footage can automatically be uploaded to the NVR if there is a break in network connectivity. Also a nice attention to detail feature: the text overlay of date/time/etc automatically turns black or white depending on the surrounding pixels. Notice the webUI walkthrough video in the google album to see all options!

Overall

After using these cameras in my testing I plan on upgrading the rest of my cameras with these, and eventually a doorbell camera if TP-Link releases one. The audio/picture quality and white LEDs with color night vision are huge upgrades. The number one deciding factor though is that these use RTSP and ONVIF and are compatible with my own smart home. I will end up using the NVR and the Fusion gateway, but the ability to use my own NVR (Scrypted) as an option is a must (adding HomeKit compatibility for most of the users in my home). I don't want to be locked into an ecosystem and these have so many options for how you implement them.

German/Hungarian Silverware Identification

Passed down from my grandparents (they grew up in Budapest and Papa). Any info would be welcome as google has a singular page on my searches for the Hungarian jeweler! I think they were from my great grandparents, maybe made around 1900?

From what I can gather, ,JA Henckels is the German silverware maker and Arthur Lofkovits is a Hungarian jeweler. That's all I've got!
