🕵️‍♂️ Confession Time: What’s the "Shadow IT" or secret workaround you built when company software failed you?

We’ve all been there: leadership rolls out a shiny new platform with tons of fanfare, promises that it will revolutionize our workflow… and it ends up taking five extra clicks just to log a simple task. 🤦‍♂️

When corporate tools are clunky, slow, or just plain counterproductive, high performers don't just sit there losing hours of their day—they get creative.

Whether it’s:

  • 📊 A master spreadsheet running on duct tape and wizard-level formulas
  • 🤖 A private, unapproved AI prompt chain or automation script
  • 📝 A rogue Trello board, Notion space, or simple paper notebook
  • ⚡ A clever shortcut system to bypass a bloated enterprise rollout

...sometimes you have to build your own safety net just to protect your sanity and reclaim your time! ⏳

Let’s open up the safe-space confessional:

When official software crashed, burned, or slowed you down, what secret system, custom tool, or "shadow" workaround did you quietly create to keep your day running smoothly?

Drop your best hacks, workarounds, and cautionary software tales below! 👇💬

Book 1 of The Hellhound Legacy

For thousands of years, Hellhounds were the hunters and executioners of enemies of the Chao Lords, powerful sorcerers who lived in a realm adjacent to Earth.  Largely impervious to magic, Hellhounds never lost the scent of their prey, tracking them relentlessly until they tore them apart.

On Earth, Jenna MacLaren had created a good life for herself. Her paranoid mother had died some years ago, but she still kept her magic hidden as her mother had taught her. Not that she had much magic, she was likely only a middling level of power for a witch or mage. Becoming a veterinarian with her own practice was a great way to help the animals she loved while hiding her magic. After all, a customer’s average golden retriever wasn’t likely to tell anyone that you had used some of your healing magic or a healing potion on them.

But apparently, her mother had good reasons to be paranoid, because, one night when Jenna arrived back at her modest home after work, the glowing red eyes of a Hellhound awaited her…and Hellhounds were impervious to magic.

🤝 Intro Tuesday — Who Do You Want to Meet? Who Can You Connect?

It's Intro Tuesday! ⏰ The day we stop scrolling and start connecting.

Every week this thread is your chance to either request a warm introduction or offer to connect people in your network. One right introduction can change everything — so let's make some magic happen. 🦸‍♂️

📋 THE INTRODUCTION PROCESS

Great introductions don't happen by accident. Follow this process to keep things high-quality and respectful of everyone's time.

🙋 REQUESTING AN INTRODUCTION?

Use this three-step process so community members can confidently vouch for you:

Step 1 — Establish Your Credibility

Nobody introduces a stranger. Give the community a reason to vouch for you by sharing at least one of the following in your comment:

  • A testimonial or review from a past client
  • A link to a demo video or portfolio
  • A LinkedIn profile with recommendations
  • A case study or results you've achieved
  • A website or other social proof

No credibility info = no introduction. This protects everyone's reputation.

Step 2 — Offer a Virtual Coffee First ☕

Before anyone introduces you, they need to know you. Offer to meet for a quick virtual coffee so they can get a feel for who you are and how you work. Include your booking link in your comment so it's easy to say yes.

Step 3 — Be Specific About Who You Want to Meet

Vague requests get vague results. Describe your ideal introduction clearly — choose one or more:

🎯 Potential Client — Industry, company size, role/title, problem they're trying to solve

🤝 Referral Partner — What type of business complements yours? Who already serves your ideal client?

📣 Influencer or Connector — Who has the audience or network that would benefit from knowing your work?

✅ REQUESTOR COMMENT TEMPLATE

>

🤝 OFFERING AN INTRODUCTION?

Got someone in your network who should meet someone in this thread? Reply directly to their comment and make it happen! The best connectors don't wait — they act.

A few tips for making a great intro:

  • Only introduce people you can genuinely vouch for
  • Make sure both parties are expecting the introduction before you send it
  • A double opt-in intro is always better than a surprise email

Drop your requests below and let's make Intro Tuesday the best day of your business week! 🚀

🧠 Outlining vs. Mind Mapping: Which one actually wins for organizing your thoughts? 🤔

When you’re starting a new project, writing an article, or just trying to organize a chaotic mess of ideas, what’s your go-to brain dump method? 💭

I know a lot of people swear by traditional, structured outlines (I, A, 1, a...), while others prefer the visual freedom of mind mapping with nodes, branches, and drag-and-drop flexibility 🗺️.

I’d love to hear how this community approaches it:

  • Which method do you find yourself using more often, and why? * Have you ever switched from one to the other? What made you change? * Is there a specific tool or app you use that completely changed the game for you? 🛠️

Drop your thoughts, favorite tools, or personal workflows below—I’m super curious to see what works best for all of you! 👇✨

The Ultimate Single Tool Challenge ⚡ If you could only use ONE app to manage your entire life, what’s your pick?

We all love experimenting with different apps, planners, and setups, but it got me thinking: what if we had to strip it all back to absolute basics?

Imagine you were forced to simplify down to just one single tool to track your tasks, schedules, projects, and personal life. No multi-app syncs, no switching back and forth—just one go-to system.

I'd love to hear your thoughts:

  • What single tool or app would you choose to run your work and personal life? * What makes that specific tool strong enough to handle everything without falling apart?
  • What’s the biggest compromise or feature you’d miss from the tools you're leaving behind? (Or would you ditch tech entirely for a classic paper notebook? 📓)

Drop your ultimate all-in-one pick and why you'd trust it in the comments below! 👇💬

How do you organize your personal life?

We spend so much time talking about how to optimize our office hours, but saving time at home is just as important. Whether it's doing chores, making dinner, or enjoying hobbies, having a good system makes life so much sweeter. For example, I save a ton of time in the kitchen by using an app called Paprika to categorize all my favorite recipes and scale them up easily

What is your favorite time-saving trick or app for managing your personal chores, meals, or hobbies?

How do you make sure your downtime is actually relaxing?

Hey friends.

Time management is just as much about enjoying your time off as it is about getting work done. But how often do we waste our breaks just scrolling endlessly because we can't decide what to do?

Lately, I've been organizing my downtime better. I use an Android e-reader so I can easily grab library books from anywhere, and I've even started rebuilding my DVD collection so my favorite shows never randomly disappear from streaming.

How do you purposefully plan your downtime so you don't end up wasting it on mindless scrolling?

What's your "i can't believe this actually works" productivity trick?

Every once in a while, you discover something that sounds way too simple...

...and somehow it works.

Maybe it's:

  • setting a timer
  • cleaning your desk first
  • working in short bursts
  • putting your phone in another room
  • writing a "done" list

Simple doesn't mean ineffective.

What's your surprisingly effective productivity trick that other people should try?

What's the best productivity purchase you've ever made?

Not everything that improves productivity costs thousands of dollars.

Maybe it was:

  • a notebook
  • noise-canceling headphones
  • a standing desk
  • an app
  • a whiteboard
  • a second monitor

Sometimes a small purchase saves hours every week.

What's the best money you've ever spent to become more productive?
