Pimax Slam Tracking and motion rigs... a match made in HELL.

Im definitely a niche customer of Pimax. My first Pimax headset was the OG Crystal about 3 years ago. I came from the Quest 2 and 3, because O got the DCS bug, and those headset just werent up to par with what i needed visually. At first, the Crystal was awesome. got my desk all set up with new flight stick, throttle, pedals etc. played and looked great.

Then I got another bug. Motion.. as in a motion rig. Man what a immersive setup.

Thats when the issues start. With motion rigs, you need Motion Compensation software. Without it, you'll bank and turn and while your body goes one way, your jet goes another and it makes for a horrible experience when you're suddenly outside the jet looking in.

Ever since i got it, I've had the lighthouse faceplate for the OG crystal, which I've been using just fine. tracking worked well.

I got the Super Ultrawide in November. It does not have Lighthouse tracking. (yet). Even if it did have lighthouse tracking, There are times that i just don't want to use lighthouse.

That's where the issue arises. The super without lighthouse uses inside out SLAM tracking. On a motion rig it flat out doesn't work. Actually I'd argue that when motion compensation is on, its actually WORSE. I get thrown all over the place, view swimming like my pilot is covered in Vaseline, sliding around int he cockpit.

I've made sure everything is configured properly. i know this because MC is just fine with lighthouse.. and I've even recently tested my old quest 3... lo and behold, the quest 3 camera based tracking works absolutely wonderfully with motion.. it looks like complete crap compared to the super.. but it actually keeps me steady in the seat.

I'm wondering if Pimax is aware of this issue at all, or if anyone else is experiencing it as well.. or if anyone has come up with a solution.

I think driving, it isnt as noticeable, however in flight sims, its extremely bad and absolutely unplayable with slam tracking. Ive tried multiple apps, simhub, and Dr Sim Manager. both have the same issues.

thanks

Hey everyone,

If you fly DCS or X-Plane in VR, you know the "mouse struggle." Reaching for a physical mouse while blinded by a headset—or trying to aim a cursor with your forehead—is the quickest way to break immersion.

For a long time, PointCtrl was the only real solution, but since it’s no longer available for purchase, the community has been left looking for an alternative. I wanted to highlight a new project (name TBD) that is stepping up to fill that void.

The Concept

It’s a lightweight, IR-based pointing system that mounts to your VR headset. It allows you to operate cockpit controls naturally by just pointing your finger at them, exactly where they sit in 3D space.

The Tech Specs

Plug-and-Play: It operates as a native USB mouse device. No messy middleware or complex remapping—if the sim uses a mouse, this works out of the box.

Three-Piece System: You get a headset-mounted IR tracking head unit and dedicated trackers for both your left and right hands.

Full Mouse Emulation: It handles cursor movement, left/right clicks, and—crucially—mouse wheel input for those stubborn rotary knobs.

Rechargeable: Both finger trackers are battery-powered and charge via USB-C.

Stability: The software includes cursor smoothing and head-movement compensation to keep the pointer steady even while you’re looking around the "pit."

Built for Simmers

This wasn't built in a vacuum; it’s been designed alongside DCS community members specifically to fix the awkwardness of VR cockpit interaction. It even supports remote firmware updates so the tracking and features can improve over time.

The project is currently moving along in Discord, and since so many people have been asking for a PointCtrl-style solution, I figured the sub would want to see this.
