DCS A10C II upgrade steam
So ive restarted playing dcs rencently and moved everything i had on steam on the standalone version of dcs.
I know sometime back then there was an upgrade possible for the A10 but not anymore i just see it on steam.
My question is if i buy the upgrade on steam and transfer it aswell will i have it on the standalone version ? (I bought the A10C I on steam)
Cheers
My first time playing in VR. What do I need to get going?
I just played DCS on my new Quest 3 (with controllers for the stick) and damn I had fun! Now the controllers are not ideal because I can't press any buttons when in VR.
Now my question is, what's the next thing I can buy (preferable not too expensive), to make this even more interesting? Of course I want to stay in VR, but is a HOTAS enough? If I get one how do I press keyboard buttons while in VR?
I’m almost giving up on DCS because I just can’t land on a carrier
I’ve been learning the F/A-18C and I’m honestly getting to the point where I’m considering giving up on DCS because I just cannot get carrier landings down.
I can barely land on the carrier even during the day. From a distance the carrier looks absolutely tiny on my monitor, and I find it incredibly difficult to control the aircraft precisely enough to stay lined up and on glideslope all the way to the deck.
I’ve done the training and I’ve spent a lot of time practicing carrier landings, including missions where I start just a few miles behind the carrier so I can practice the approach over and over again. But I’m still incredibly inconsistent. Out of maybe 10 attempts, I’ll successfully land once.
What really made me realize how much I’m struggling was Mission 2 of The Serpent’s Head. I got to the carrier recovery and just couldn’t do it. If I can barely manage a carrier landing during the day when I can actually see the ship, I have no idea how I’m supposed to do it at night.
I also find the controls extremely sensitive during the approach. It feels like the smallest throttle adjustment sends me off the glideslope, and then I correct it, overcorrect, and end up constantly chasing the aircraft all the way down.
Did anyone else struggle this much when learning carrier landings? Is there something fundamental I might be doing wrong?
Any advice on how to practice this without losing my mind would be appreciated.

F14BU a/a lockup problem.
Hiyaz. Buddy & I are learning the f14BU. Him as pilot me as RIO. We have a problem when switching from a/g back to a/a & trying to use the pilot scan modes. When he opens the ACM cover & switches to a/a & presses eg. PAL or another of the other modes, we don't get any symbology or see the scan moving eg. left to right.
Is there a certain procedure to change from a/g to a/g that we are missing? Master arm is on btw. Other than him just swapping from A/G to A/A & opening the ACM cover? Scenario: eg. I find a target with the pod & full click on Lantirn trigger to get a range & drop cue for the pilot for a GBU12. We get jumped & have to quickly dogfight.
Problem seems to happen more often on mp servers. Though everything seems smooth, could it be a sync problem or it's just us? lol
Compressed Terrains Folder and Saved 32%
I have been testing the open source compression utility CompactGUI, which is simply a UI for the native windows compact.exe file compression utility.
I used it to compress my mods/terrains folder. I started with 786GB and ended with 532GB using LZX compression. I test the load time with the Iraq map and only noticed a slight delay in load time and no change in overall performance. The compression took about an hour on a 990 ssd and used 100% cpu so be prepared.
I know there has been a lot of discussion regarding install size, this may be a good solution for some users. As a disclaimer, I am not at all affiliated with the program, I just saw an article on it and wanted to give it a try.
F18 salute animation not working?
Hello,
I have f18 and supercarrier, I can lunch from the supercarrier no problem, my salute works as expected to start the taxi and to be launched, but the cool hand gesture animation doesn't show up... Is there some option or something I should activate? However the pilot does grab the static bar at the top of the canopy frame while being launched...
Thanks!
EDIT: The pilot makes the salute animation when asking for taxi, but not when saluting just before being launched.
PDF transcripts for Gunthreks Acadamy lessons
Hi all,
Not sure if there is any appetite for this but I was finding that some of the text I needed to read when doing the missions would disappear before I had read them or gotten through the instructions. as such, I extracted the dictionary for each mission and compiled them into PDFs which can be used in kneeboards. If anyone wants them, find them here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JJRHfS5Xl2GxV2nJqORoLu_9IX9eHe-Q/view?usp=sharing
Why the JF-17 "Jeff" is the ultimate budget smartphone of DCS World
Hey everyone,
With all the talk around modern multirole jets, I feel like the JF-17 Thunder doesn't always get the spotlight it deserves. I've been diving deep into "The Jeff" lately, and I wanted to put together a fun, high-level introduction for anyone who might be on the fence about trialing or buying it.
Here is a quick overview of why this jet is so unique:
Meet the JF-17 Thunder: The Smartest Jet You Aren’t Flying Yet
When you think of modern combat jets in DCS, names like the F-16 Viper or the F/A-18 Hornet usually steal the spotlight. But there is a quiet overachiever sitting on the flight line that deserves your attention.
If you love cutting-edge tech, clever design, and punching above your weight class, this might just become your new favorite airplane.
What is the JF-17 Thunder?
The JF-17 is a single-engine, lightweight fighter jet developed jointly by Pakistan and China. Think of it as the ultimate budget smartphone of the fighter jet world. It does not try to be an expensive, heavy stealth fighter. Instead, it packs high-tech screens, modern computers, and deadly weapons into a small, affordable package.
Why Pilots Love "The Jeff"
The Glass Cockpit: Instead of dozens of confusing mechanical dials, the JF-17 features three massive, beautiful computer screens. It feels less like a 1980s spaceship and more like a modern video game.
The Talking Computer: The jet features a friendly voice warning system. Unlike the Western "Bitchin' Betty," the JF-17’s automated voice is calm, polite, and uniquely charming.
The Ultimate Arsenal: While some lightweight jets only carry standard bombs, the JF-17 is a true Swiss Army knife. It carries specialized C-802AK anti-ship missiles to sink giant boats, LD-10 radiation missiles to hunt down enemy radar dishes, and SD-10 radar-guided missiles to destroy other planes from long distance.
Who is This Jet For?
The JF-17 is perfect for anyone who loves efficiency. It is easy to learn because the computer handles a lot of the hard work for you. It tells you exactly where the threats are, how to avoid them, and when to fire. Whether you want to fight other jets high in the sky or sneak in low to destroy ground targets, "The Jeff" can do it all with the push of a few buttons.
What do you think? For those of you who main the JF-17, what was the one feature that completely hooked you?

GBU-39 mod: Proof of Concept & Work-In-Progress for a (much) Steep(er) Ka-boom Angle (original mod by CurrentHill, final modifications by Pally).
Hello folks, this has been an LUA weaponeering project since early 2025. Well, it's August of 2026 so it is time to show this proof of concept regarding the AI-only GBU-39/B by CurrentHill can actually have a steeper impact angle.
Of the currently (no pun-intended) available user-employable GBU-39 mods, they often impact at an anemically shallow angle. The tradeoff is although they are user-employable, they don't have a custom impact angle that is steep, like 80° to 85°steep. My goal is to mod this AI-only munition to do at least a respectable impact angle, and in turn with great hope that someone with more knowledge and time can take over and make it an user-employable.
After a year and countless hours* of testing, reverse LUA parameters engineering, understanding (or that I thought I did) had I finally modded this GBU-39 to achieve a steep enough of an impact angle similar to the real thing (minimum munition entry altitude at ~7000ft AGL to achieve an impact angle of 65-70°.). After I worked on the impact angle, I turned my attention in its impact precision... that took even longer that the impact angle (I will explain more if I can stay awake...)
Although this mod is only for AI use, it a mod that I found interesting enough to spent that time to improve it. In the end, I have learned a few things about the inertia, the Ma, Mw, Ma_x, Ma_z and Ma_w just to name a few. In short literally redid the weight, length (that means the inertia is changed, but once that is done the munition has to have its CG and stability rebalanced) and drag (severely effects performance in subsonic regime), as well as wing deployment timing to mimic what scarce public resources I could find to make it look convincing to be called it a GBU-39, more specifically, GBU-39/B.
In the end, this AI-only GBU-39 mod has a maximum range of 65+ nm when dropped at an altitude of 47,000 ft and at speed of 500-550 kts. You can have them release at low as 300 ft, but the AI must go real fast at 550+ kts to yeet that thing out to a subdued range of 13-15nm.
The short clips are mere phone recording as I haven't enabled NVIDIA in-game recording as this is only a preliminary proof of concept post, please understand, Thank you. I am not as well versed with everything gaming related especially in domain of screen recording just yet, but I will learn how to do that in time. Hope guys and gals find this modding of mod at least decent enough.
I have edited the mod so that it is available for the F/A-18, F-16C, A-10C and A-10C II, last but not least, the F-14B. Will work on the B(U) eventually.
*There were shit tons of hours spent since early 2025. I was relentless in spite of setbacks and brickwalled. And yes, I sent CurrentHill some coffee money from his website on the day I downloaded his mods! I was over joy for his Swedish and Ukraine mods. I firmly believe talents like that is worth it. So glad his asset packs got officialized into DCS World.
Spruance/Kidd/Ticonderoga Class
If I could model these myself for the community I would, but we need someone who is gifted. Maybe someday.
Cheers!
DCS Bind Issue
(Not posting in thread, that goes no where and you tubs know it)
Using VKB EVO/STECS
I wanna use a POV analog stick for looking around, I dont have TrackIR or VR
why is DCS's keybind system so poorly made UI wise and very slow and incompatable with most modern ways of binding
There has to be a way to bind this 2 way axis to my view WITHOUT using absolute, absolute is stupid, you gotta hold the stick and it makes reading ANYTHING on your panels a nightmare
fix game honestly or give me some workaround please

Hornet vs Viper difference in elevation scan volume with same bar setting?
Forgive me for being such a noob but just recently I noticed that with the same BAR setting (2BAR to 4BAR). The Hornet cover an elevation scan volume much less than the Viper with the same radar range scale. Could anyone explain to me why there is such a difference? I attached an image to better illustrate my point
