Rules question: charge and maximizing contact

Hi all. I played a game last week and we encounter a situation which was very clear to my opponent but not to me. I did not want to spend so much time clarifying the rule and I agreed to their view of the ruling, but I wanted to ask to be sure in case it happens again. Pictures attached.

- fell bats declare a charge into one cannon (picture 1)
- rule says they have to maximize contact
- I thought that given that the cannon base is 50mm and the fell bats 40mm, you can squeeze the three bats into the front line
- this would result in: contact with the adjacent cannon, and having to move the other unit one inch to fulfill the 1 inch rule (pictures 2 and 3).

My opponent argued that the clansmen unit cannot be moved, and therefore, only two bats could fit in contact with the cannon to fulfill the 1 inch rule, which would result in not making contact with the adjacent cannon as well (picture 4).

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

How to improve on the following issues

Hi all. After a lot of researching, dota videos, Reddit posts, and watching replays I came to the conclusion that these are the main things I should be working on to improve my gameplay:

I am not particularly consistent at converting fights or pick-offs into structural advantages. I mainly play mid and I find hard to push for objectives alone since many times I am not playing a pusher.

I generally win my lane (70% according to the last report) and I do very well in the early to mid stage (top net worth and top kills) , but I don’t know what to do when the game state around isn't improving at the same rate (cores and supports in my team). I end up feeding since I try to force plays. I get myself into a winning position, but I don’t turn that position into objectives or shrinking the map for the opponents.

Also I think I am dying because I am unable to identify if I am going to enter situations where the potential reward isn't large enough to justify the risk -I mainly die trying to chase cores or supports pushing lanes, sometimes me alone, even with passive supports- and when I start failing I struggle to play from behind and catch up on items and levels.

I have been playing for a long time and I am finding hard to improve in these areas. I think I have been doing the same for a long time and it is difficult to change very well established patterns.

Any ideas? What can I do to improve at these points.

Cheers.

Comeback mechanics feels a bit unfair

Hi there. Just a comment. I was thinking that the comeback mechanic of getting a ton of gold if you kill someone who was doing good feels a bit unfair.

I understand is good for the pro-scene. You get more turn arounds and all that, but I can’t help thinking it makes the game more stressful since no mistakes are allowed if you are doing good.

I have not done the precise math, but off the top of my head: you die three times is like 800g? Some times more some times less?

You are crushing the game, you made a mistake, or you get ganked by a good play of the opponent team, and suddenly you drop 1k in the middle of mid game when it matters the most to the opponent carry, you are out for 60+ secs and you give away around 2k in farm so they finish the item they were struggling to get, and yada yada yada, you know the rest.

Idk, it feels a bit miserable and too much of a reward for a team that has not played particularly well during the whole game.

Also, it makes the game longer for no reason, and more mentally taxing. Meh

Virpil base replacement bolts

Hi. I need 4 bolts for Virpil ward bird base. These need to be longer than those that come with the base. This is to fix the base to a chair so when I have to push the joystick to the limits it does not skew, losing contact with the other base (if this makes sense).

Do you know where can I get these? Thank you

Why am I so inefficient when farming?

Hi. I don’t know. I only think in going as fast as possible while trying to be where needed when needed, but for some reason, at some point in the game, I just fell off efficiency.

How can I improve?

Some later examples:

Void Spirit: 8899986042
Weaver: 8895351638
Shadow Fiend: 8892247777

I reviewed this last one because PL got 687 CS in a 42min game. I tried to study what he does and I can’t see anything special. He just does pinball around camps and lanes. I had a much better start of the game than him and somehow I am not able to capitalize, and this happens to me a lot.

Am I missing something? Is driving me crazy.

Thanks in advance

Dwarves vs Vampire Counts

Hi all.

I have never played against Vampire Counts and I am a little skeptical of my chances vs them.

They will be playing the latest meta list (I don’t know if it is very good) and I am playing my own thing.

They have 1000 points in characters: master necro with scepter of noirot; necro acolyte in mortis eng.; vampire count on zombie dragon and BSB Wight lord.

Units: 27 graveguard; 20’+ 20 zombies; 5 dire wolves; 3 fell bats and one black coach and one terror heist.

I have 629 in characters: runelord with master rune of calm; thane BSB with master rune of swiftness, 2x rune of fury and master rune of grugni; Rambo dwarf with crossbow.

Units: 20 warriors with rune of battle; 10 rangers; 10 thunderers with shields and great weapons.

2 cannons; 3 gyros with clattergun; 11 iron breakers with cinderbombs, rune of confusion and two detachments of 7 irondrakes each.

What is the play? I would appreciate your views.

Map is not open field but it has some spaces for gun lines.

Regards.

Poker on a cruise

Hi all. I will be going with my wife’s family on a cruise soon.

I believe there will be a casino where I will be able to play some games. I am looking forward to get rid of the kids for some days and do something different for a week.

I have not played poker in quite a long time but I had tried to keep up with theory, but I feel I will probably the greenest at the table almost guaranteed.

I don’t want to go there a play only premiums, and I will try to practice everything I read.

All this said. Would you give any general advice so I could enjoy the games and maybe make some money? Like, is the field going to be like me 99%? Do not play into the pro ever? Do not bluff calling stations? Idk something of that sort.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

Custom poker chips

What do you guys think? I made these to play at home small casual cash games. I don’t think I will be able to use them more than once a year if any, but man, I really like those custom chips.

I like them as they are, but if I could change anything it would be use strong/shiny colours in either the chip or the edge spots, probably edge spots.

I hope you like them.

Beating a flying unit worth 900 points.

Hi there.

I will have a game soon that presents a challenge that I really don’t know how to solve.

How do you beat a skirmisher flying unit worth 900 points in total with an army designed to not have a unit worth more than 500 points given how slow the dwarves move?

Thanks in advance.

How can I improve this mini

Hi all.

I am having problems with a two or three things when painting minis.

  1. I don’t know how to highlight without losing saturation. I really like for example how rich the yellow is on the shoes, but I recognize there is little to no highlight. I know I could use oranges to enhance the shadow which is I guess a form of highlighting, but I don’t know how to make a good colour choice in the spectrum.

  2. I am always having issues with applying colour to weapon handles. I rather use dark colours to manage the contrast since I don’t want the handle to bring too much attention, but at the same time I want it too look good. All the tutorials I have seen push up the wood tones a lot, but I don’t know how to do this with darker colours and make it noticeable. I think it looks too flat.

  3. I have the same issue with the belt as I have with the shoes. How to choose a good tone that helps to enhance and highlight without using white or yellows.

Thanks in advance.
