The Worst Neighbors I Ever Had

And that's saying something, because I live in an inner city hell hole.

But these people took the cake. Come to find out, they were cousins of the office manager 🤦‍♀️

Over the course of a year, here are some of the things they did:

  1. Set off fireworks at midnight on every holiday, on their little apartment patio. A couple times live fireworks hit my windows and I had to go stomp them out to stop a 🔥
  2. Beat up a woman (the wife, being beaten by her husband and at least one other guy) OUTSIDE, in the middle of the night, everybody screaming, and when I went outside to tell them to stop, they threatened to beat me up too, INCLUDING THE WOMAN BEING BEATEN
  3. Held HUGE pool parties, until up to 3 in the morning, I'm talking 40/50 people, all drunk, screeching, with loud AF music, even though we're supposedly not allowed to have pool parties or be in the pool past 10
  4. Left their dog on their patio barking whenever they weren't home, one time for 48 hours in 100 degree heat (in the South in the summer)
  5. Had drunken patio parties complete with fistfights spilling into the courtyard EVERY SATURDAY for MONTHS...

I mean I could go on.

I kept sending videos and NOTHING would happen because the leasing agent was their cousin.

Finally one night I called the cops and to my surprise they actually showed up (in my city they usually won't) and these idiots actually physically fought with the cops and one had to be tazed.

I am happy to report they were evicted for that particular incident (finally!) and that apartment has been empty since November.

For Once a Nice Neighbor

I guess it's the opposite of venting, but every time I get an empty apartment next to me here in the inner city, I hold my breath for what new hell awaits me.

A constantly barking dog? A screaming passle of kids? A meth head who likes to blast Metallica at 3 am?

Imagine my surprise when a middle aged woman introduced herself as my new neighbor after the Metallica blaster moved out...

And was super polite and asked me if they'd made any noises to disturb me in any way.

Apparently after talking to her, her and her brother moved in 6 weeks ago, and I didn't even realize that apartment had been rented.

Oh Lord, thank you, thank you for small favors 🙏

I don't know if this would help anyone, but here's some things I've eaten that really stretched my budget but made me happy, both when I was in college making nothing and today when costs are crazy:

Chili Crisp Ramen: Cook any flavor Ramen, drain, add 2 tablespoons peanut butter, 1 teaspoon chili crisp (the cheap one, laoganma) and a little broth, heat 30 seconds, stir

Homemade Noodles: 1) Fry a pound of any meat (ground beef, or chicken or pork chunks) or boil a pound of chicken gizzards or livers until cooked through (or leave out if you can't afford, I've been there), 2) add water and beef bouillon cubes, 1 cube per 2 cups, about 10 to 12 cups; 3) mix 3 cups flour with 6 eggs and some salt, and enough water to form a dough, roll out thick and cut into dumplings and boil 30 minutes in the broth. I ate this so much in college and it saved me!

Buy "Just add water" pancake mix, and use this for everything, batter to fry, of course pancakes and waffles, or add 1/2 cup shortening to 3 cups mix, add water to form a dough, roll out and cut and bake at 350 to make biscuits. Make gravy from any fried meat with the rendered fat, but when I can't afford meat I mixed 3 tablespoons vegetable oil with 3 tablespoons flour or pancake mix, fry until browned, add 1-2 cups milk and season with salt and pepper, Bam, biscuits and gravy

I loved a can of chicken + boxed Noodles + any vegetables boiled together for soup, add bouillon or just salt/pepper for flavor, toast cheap bread to dip in it

I also live off battered and fried chicken livers or gizzards sometimes, it's a southern thing, but they're cheap anywhere

Hope it helps 🙏

Tonight I was literally making a reddit post about the hell of living by the pool 😭

Meanwhile the other side of my apartment, my bedroom windows are directly in the middle of the parking lot.

I swear I've gotten used to the noise at all hours, but right now I have a 4 month old. I'm already not sleeping and I had JUST gotten her to sleep when it sounded like a dang tailgate party right outside my window and the baby woke up and started crying.

First I banged on the window and yelled "Keep it down!"

They got louder so the next bang was a spicy "Shut the F up!!" Mind you it's almost midnight.

At that point they screamed back at me "You shut up, puta!" And a lot of other not so choice words. And got louder.

Do against my better judgment I handed the baby to my husband and scurried outside to tell them to STFU in person and didn't even put on my shoes and on the way I kicked the air conditioning unit and as a retired nurse I'm 90 percent sure I broke my penultimate toe.

Hijinks ensued which resulted in them being quiet but which may now land me on Tik Tok.

Highlights include them threatening to call the cops because I "charged at" them, me saying "Go ahead, call the cops and tell them I walked fast!"

No hands were laid, no threats were made. But I probably am not making the decisions a well slept person would make 😭😭

TLDR: I overreacted to noise violations and broke my own toe as a result

If you live by a pool (don't do it!!) and you live in the South, you know what I mean.

Ahh yes, gone is the peace of winter and now that it's already 80+ degrees...

And since I thought living RIGHT NEXT to the pool would be SO FUN(!!!!!)...

This is the punishment for my sins. It's already begun... yesterday was the first day of THE BAD TIMES.

Yes, all summer long. Oh I know, I'm a mother of 3 myself. I know kids like to have fun!

But I didn't understand that people let their kids SCREAM BLOODY MURDER from 5 pm sometimes till 3 In the morning. I didn't know ADULTS SCREAM TOO. I didn't know that people played loud music until all hours.

If you're ever moving, keep this on mind and DON'T DO IT!
