We’re making a claim based on my great, great-grandfather, who moved to the US in 1909. My grandfather contacted the LA Consulate and they said they will approve his passport application if he can provide proof that his dad lived only in the US (as opposed to moving abroad and naturalizing elsewhere) from his birth until my grandfather’s birth.
Right now, we have his dad’s birth certificate (1921), the 1930 Census, the 1935/1940 Census, his 1941 marriage certificate, and my grandpa’s 1944 birth certificate.
The consular officer wouldn’t give us any indication about what types of proof would be sufficient, and said that we have to schedule an appointment for her to tell us anything further.
Does anybody have experience with proving residence for direct to passport? If so, do you know the usability of census data?

When filling out Anlage V, when it asks for citizenships of the ancestor, do I have to list German? I would assume the BVA employs people intelligent enough to make that assumption.

Hello all,

My two siblings and I are applying for confirmation of citizenship from the BVA soon, along with our grandfather. How should we go about applying together? All four applications follow the exact same lineage and require the same documents as proof (except for birth certificates)

Here is a brief outline of our family:

I have been unable to get a copy of ship registers from Hamburg, but my ancestor’s Meldekarte lists his residence as Amerika and the day that he moved there as 13/7/07, showing that he had left Germany after loss of citizenship was possible. Will the BVA consider this sufficient?

I have around 30k in a Vanguard UTMA brokerage account which was opened for me as a child, all of it invested in the VGSTX. I plan to put most or all of this money toward buying a house, probably in about 10 years. What considerations need to be made when deciding to keep my VGSTX stock or change my portfolio?

For retirement, I have a separate Roth IRA which is invested in a Vanguard Target Date Fund. I do not intend to use the standard brokerage account for my retirement.

I will continue to contribute to my standard brokerage account after maxing out higher priority accounts.

I'm planning on heading out with some friends to the Salt Flats during the New Moon on June 14th. Do you all have any suggestions for good spots, tips for getting there, or any alternate locations to suggest?
