Another day in the life of Honey Badger and Sandwich.
We are staying in a VRBO rental that was listed as "Private apartment in the quiet community of..." - it's a downstairs unit from the main house with its own entrance in back.
There were no disclosures of children or potential noise from upstairs. The hosts have young kids running around the entire property, including our entrance walkway, all day... Loud footsteps and voices from above, and one day one of the hosts was standing on their back deck, which overlooks our "private" entry, having a conversation with their neighbor (who was also on his deck) for 15+ minutes. We had to leave and walked out underneath/between them. It was very awkward.
The host asked how the unit was and I politely let her know the space is nice but it's honestly been a little noisy with heavy foot traffic. She then asked what time we go to bed and wake up and what hours of the day we would be in the unit, which I didn't answer, because it's our vacation and we don't know... She reiterated if I would communicate that to her she would try to keep the kids quieter during those times, which to me is not an acceptable answer. I politely let her know I needed to go and left.
This morning, the noise started again with kids running, yelling, playing all morning. As we left, her kids ran directly down the walkway to our entrance and brushed by us. I messaged the host on VRBO this time and stated I wanted to follow up on our conversation yesterday and we would appreciate anything they could do to reduce the heavy footsteps. I also mentioned the description of our vehicle and if they see it in front of their home, we are in the unit.
They responded they're trying to accommodate us - then included "private residences are allowed as short term rentals here and I don't understand why VRBO advertises them as private and quiet."
We are scheduled to be here for a few more days and moving at this point will be a major disruption. I have videos of the conversation with their neighbor and the upstairs noise. I will probably ask VRBO for a partial refund, but should I start that process now (today, or ahead of our checkout at least)?
Getting ready to leave Whistler this morning and I noticed something on my tire... of course it's a Canadian flag pin! A souvenir, for the low price of a few mls of tubeless sealant.
I was given this from my grandmother's estate when she passed. I'm curious if anyone can tell me anything about its approximate age, value, or context like did the hotel sell these, etc... It's marked sterling on the back side.
Excuse the dirty floor :)
Let me know what ya got, new or partial bottles.
Prefer to deal with people who have a decent amount of confirmed sales and public post/comment history. Comment before messaging.me, please and thank you.
After my son graduates HS this year, we're headed on a road trip from California up to Whistler. Will be riding there, Squamish, North Shore, and the PNW. So, riding will be a combination of lift access, but lots of pedaling unless we can find some locals to shuttle with.
We need some better body armor for chest and back. Right now we have POC spine protectors, but they're heavy, uncomfortable, and seem like they might not stay put in an actual crash.
I've got some Leatt Impact shorts that are pretty nice. I think we'd get along with anything like that.
Got any recommendations for tops with integrated chest+back padding, either short or long sleeve that would work for our mission?
