Dual Imperial/Chaos Paint Schemes

With several knight boxes usable for both Chaos and Imperial Knight data sheets, you could theoretically paint up shared Dominus, Questoris, Cerastus, and Armiger models to form the backbone of both armies while supplementing with faction-specific Abominant/Destrier/War Dog units.

I get that you can proxy anything mechanically but am curious if anyone tried to develop a combined paint scheme for both factions to allow for visually coherent play. I guess that would be a medium weathering , no faction-specific iconography, no rust, and no Chaos adornments like spikes. I’m ignoring the “renegades technically aren’t corrupted” angle, as mixing in Abominants clearly makes you a Chaos army.

Has anyone tried this approach, and did you like how it turned out? Or did you end up with bland knights for both factions?

Cutting Down a Long Brush Handle?

I sprung for two nice brushes for my birthday but did not understand the ordering options and ended up with two very long handles!

Is there any structural or longevity downside to cutting them down and varnishing the end?

Oops, Two LoCs

For my birthday, I decided to try to snag a Dark Imperium Lord of Contagion as my army's second LoC. I started putting lowish-ball bids when they showed up on eBay, with the hope that one auction would finish at an odd hour and result in a good deal.

For a while, nothing happened. My bids were blown out of the water as this most imposing of axemen were scooped up.

I received a notification...success! No new bids; time to wait. And then, another?! Apparently two auctions avoided the bidding frenzy in short succession.

Now I have two LoC and will ironically have to sell one back. From famine to embarrassing feast.

I'm tempted to paint up a Chaos Knight or a few War Dogs as a hobby project and am curious about how they play in Death Guard without dedicated army rules & detachment support.

This is mostly for casual FLGS/RTT games, but I don't want to bring an army that will completely fall apart on contact.
