Abandoned PanAm terminal still stands at JFK. All that remains of its PanAm history is its iconic blue and white colors as it awaits demolition.

Used for a couple years in the 1970s due to the PanAm terminal suffering capacity issues during construction. Once it was no longer needed it served as extra parking for Pan Am 747 as it sits next to Hangar 17.

It was revived by TowerAir in 1995 before it went bankrupt in 2000. Unfortunately the beautiful Pan Am logo on the Hangar was replaced by TowerAir logo.

[New Gear] Sigma ART 17-40mm F 1.8 lens for my R50

I was rocking the R50 with only the kit lens and the RF 100-400mm but routinely found myself unable to take beautiful up close photos till I got this amazing lens. Before I would have to choose an appropriate time of day and weather to really get some amazing shots.

Before this lens I could not take plane photos if any of these variables existed

  • Overcast, the poor lightning of the kit lens and RF 100-400mm means very grainy and low detailed photos. This included any rainy days
  • Backlit subjects had horrid details and noise. I like my photos so that people can pixel peep and enjoy all the details.
  • Dusk or dawn you could not take any usable photos due to lighting issues
  • Airplane far too close (my biggest reason for seeking out this lens). I routinely got within less then 50 feet from taxing aircraft and had to resort to using my 18-50 kit lens which struggles in far too many circumstances.

The RF 100-400mm and the Sigma 17-40mm are the dream team combo with the R50. When I need reach the RF 100-400mm delivers in droves and when I get up close and personal the Sigma has my back capturing stunning quality unmatched by most lens.
