Overheating?
Hi everyone, sorry if you are seeing this post on the form as well but trying to get different opinions.
I went out for a ride today, and after about 40 minutes my bike’s temperature gauge suddenly read “Hi.” When I shut the bike off, I could hear the coolant bubbling like it was boiling. It was only 83°F outside. At first glance, it looked like the overflow reservoir was completely empty. After waiting about five minutes, I pulled the side fairing off and saw that the coolant was actually sitting just below the “Full” line.
I continued riding and the bike felt normal. The temperature spiked to 230°F once but then settled around 220°F for the rest of the ride home.
A few hours later, I went back out and the bike hit 240°F within five minutes of riding. I pulled over and let it cool down. I can hear the fan turning on, but I’m not sure if it’s running at full strength or if I’m just overthinking it while trying to diagnose the issue.
I have a new OEM thermostat and radiator cap on the way, and I’m planning to do a full coolant flush with Engine Ice. If that doesn’t solve it, I’m leaning toward checking or replacing the water pump next.
I’d really appreciate any opinions on what might be going on. I’m also worried that I may have caused damage or warped the head from these temps, which is stressing me out a bit. Bike has 3k miles and is tuned. Thank you!
