Miami-Dade voters can do the funniest thing possible

and elect Rob Piper over Vicki Lopez.

Vicki Lopez’s record as an elected official includes:
- Sponsored a statewide school bus camera program to benefit her son’s client

- Sponsored the Live Local Act, selling out every municipality in Florida to developers

- Went to prison for lying in ethics disclosures about being married to one lobbyist while in an affair with another (Bill Clinton commuted her sentence lol).

She raised $1.5m this election, and her opponent, Rob Piper, raised less than $3,000.

This town is truly incredible sometimes.

Drinking water solutions?

Hi all, new to the area and curious what everyone recommends for drinking water? Do you all install filters under your sinks or faucets? Or do you use bottled water, etc? Curious what the best option is on the beach. Would love to use a local service! Basically just wanting clean, filtered drinking water at a good price

I found a walk in Coral Gables that feels like you left Miami 9.5/10

I’ve been walking different parts of Miami trying to find the routes that are actually worth doing, and this one is easily one of my favorites so far.

The Grand Estates Loop takes you through quiet Coral Gables streets covered by huge oak trees, with beautiful Mediterranean-style homes, gardens, and some seriously impressive estates along the way.

It’s the kind of walk where you can slow down, look around, and forget you’re still in Miami.

Start: Granada Golf Course 2001 Granada Blvd, Coral Gables
Parking: Free parking at Granada Golf Course
Coffee: Le Parc Bonjour Café Bistro
What I loved:
Huge oak canopy
Beautiful estates
Mediterranean architecture
Quiet streets
Gardens and little details everywhere

Fun fact: Part of this loop passes through Coral Estates, a neighborhood that began developing in the 1930s. Some of the homes along the route date back to 1937.

⭐️ Rating: 9.5/10
🚶 Distance: ~2.9 miles
⏱️ Time: ~95 minutes
👟 Steps: ~8,200

Plug Tip
Go early in the morning. The light through the oak canopy is beautiful, and the neighborhood is much quieter.

I’m continuing my mission to find the best walks in Miami

For those of you who know Coral Gables, what did I miss? Is there another neighborhood or street I should add to my list?

Unique/Odd things to do in Miami

Hi! Two couples coming to visit Miami mid/late February. Starting in Key West for Dry Tortugas. Then making our way to Miami for a couple days. We want to tour the Marlin’s stadium. And visit Miami Beach just so my friend can say she went 😂

We’re staying in Brickell which is kinda central to all those things plus Biscayne. I’m the national parks person in our group which I’ve already don’t kayaking in Biscayne but if there’s a specific excursion you recommend I’m all for it since it’s a massive (mostly underwater) park.

Not into clubbing. Bars have to have something unique about them to go. Speakeasy, themed, etc.

Love oddity shops, need good brunch recommendations, considering raccoon island unless locals are vehemently against it. Like zoo tourist traps, if there’s tour is inhumane I’m not interested.

Got hit by a rental car in Miami, who am I actually supposed to deal with?

Got hit near downtown Miami over the weekend by someone driving a rental car. He changed lanes into me and pushed my car into the curb. Police came out and I got his information plus the rental paperwork he had with him.

Kinda confused on next steps here. The driver gave me his personal insurance but the car obviously belongs to the rental company. I called my own insurance and they basically told me they’re still figuring everything out. My car isn’t drivable right now and my wrist got pretty banged up, so I’m going to get it looked at. Never been in this situation before. Anyone dealt with an accident involving a rental car in Florida and know what the next move usually is?

Sketchy areas to avoid?

Will be new to the beach (South/mid) and are there any areas I should avoid walking alone especially at night as a female? I’ve heard some areas can be sketchy but not sure which ones. Thanks all

Miami Dolphins

Is it worth going to a Miami Dolphins game while in Miami? It would be my first time at a match, and I don't fully understand the rules of the sport since it isn't played in my country. However, I’m mainly interested in the experience itself and the atmosphere. Thanks.

Ethnic composition, purchasing power, and the labor market.

I’m Brazilian and currently visiting Miami (Miami Beach).

In Brazil, the low-wage workforce is made up mostly of Black people; slavery was abolished there only in 1888, and that delayed action still impacts the labor market today.

I noticed that here, it is Latinos who do this kind of work.

As you know, purchasing power in that lousy country, Brazil, is non-existent. You have to work for a decade without spending a cent of your salary just to afford an entry-level car. I was amazed by the quantity and quality of the cars people own here. And a large share of these impressive vehicles belongs to Black people driving SUVs.

That said, what kind of work does this segment of the population do? In Brazil, generally speaking, Black people can’t even afford a used motorcycle. I found this balance across the population as a whole interesting and gratifying—though it’s a different story for Latinos, whose situation resembles that of Black Brazilians.

Alysha Hanin: My mum vanished from Miami Beach in 2002 when I was three. I’m in Miami now, asking anyone who was around back then.

Last one taken down, had to prove involvement.

My mum went missing from Miami Beach on 6 January 2002. She was 24. I was three, back in New Zealand with my grandmother.

Her name was Alysha Hanin, though plenty of people knew her as Krsangi, and some as Yami. She grew up in California and had been living in Miami Beach about three years by then and had got her US citizenship the year before. She'd flown over for six weeks and she was due home.

She was last seen in the early hours at the Shore Club on Collins. She left to go and get something to eat and that was it.

Everything stayed behind. Passport, luggage, purse, ID, bank cards, her phone. There was about $7,000 in her accounts that nobody ever touched. She wasn't reported missing for three weeks.

I'm 27 now. She's never called my grandmother, never called me, in 24 years. She used to ring home every day or two when she was away.

The case is still open. Miami Beach PD 2002-3368, NamUs MP19635.

I'm in Miami at the moment. First time. I've come over to talk to people who knew her and to put what we've found in front of the authorities.

So I'm just asking. If you were around South Beach in late 2001 or early 2002, working the clubs or the hotels or the restaurants, driving a cab, living down there, you might have crossed paths with her without knowing it. Same if you knew her from the Hare Krishna community, in California, LA or back in New Zealand.

I'm not asking anyone to solve anything, just some curious people that may be able to help the case.

There's more about her at findingalysha.com, and you can leave something there anonymously if you'd rather. Or Crime Stoppers, 305-471-TIPS.

I'll be in the comments.

Miami recommendations please!

We’ll be staying in Miami hotel near Miami Airport this September with our baby. I’d love to get some advice from other parents who have traveled to Miami with a little one.

Which option would you recommend?

- Rent a car and bring our own car seat, or

- Rent a car and rent a car seat as well, or

- Skip renting a car and use public transportation, Uber, or Lyft

We’re trying to figure out which option would be the safest, easiest, and most convenient with a baby.

Also, if you have any tips or recommendations for traveling around Miami with a baby—especially transportation, car seats, places to visit, or things we should prepare for—I’d really appreciate it!

Please help this mama out! 🥹❤️

THANK YOU!!!

Pool party attire and after that?

I’ve seen some videos of guys wearing sneakers and flip-flops at pool parties. Can anyone guide me on the proper dress code and what’s appropriate to wear for the Strawberry Moon and Moxy pool parties over Labor Day weekend? I want to make sure I’m dressed appropriately for the vibe. Also how to get changed when the party gets over? They normally don't allow to bring extra sets of clothes or bags in the party?

Thanks!

Travel to Miami

Hi.
I have a trip planned from Warsaw to Miami for November 22–30, and seeing an NBA game has been a huge dream of mine. Unfortunately, following yesterday's schedule announcement, the Miami Heat aren't playing during my stay—except for the day I land (and the landing time clashes with the game's tip-off). I don't have much time to see everything in Florida, so I’d love some advice on what’s most worth doing or seeing.

I have a few options to choose from:

  1. Take the train to Orlando for the game against Detroit (I’m seriously considering this) and stay overnight—I’d like to know if Orlando is worth the time.
  2. Go to Key West instead of Orlando.
  3. Skip the previous two options and take a ferry to the Bahamas. Unless you have other suggestions? I’d appreciate your advice. Also, I’m not sure if 7 days is enough to see everything in Miami. Thanks!

Best club and nightlife options?

My wife and me are going to Miami Beach this weekend and have been researching the nightlife places to dance and get smashed.

I know this question has been asked to death here, but is there any consensus on where the best night out for clubbing and dancing is these days?? It seems like each club will be highly recommended in some posts, but then totally trashed in another! Or is it just a personal preference thing? We could easily spend $500+ or so on drinks for the night, so VIP tables don’t QUITE make sense… but I keep seeing if you don’t have a table then you won’t have room to dance?

Is there a way to split a table with other people? What is the move when you want to go out somewhere high energy as a couple but want room to dance too?

South of Fifth Studio for $230k (Co-Op, Cash Only, $1,800/mo Tenant in Place) – Numbers Breakdown

Hey everyone, sharing a breakdown on a turn-key studio listing in South of Fifth (401 Collins Ave #21). Given how tough it is to find anything in SoBe under $250k, I wanted to post the raw numbers and rules for anyone looking for a beach pad or steady long-term rental.

Quick Summary

  • Location: 401 Collins Ave #21 (1 block off the beach / South Pointe area)
  • Price: $230,000 (Cash Only – Co-Op structure)
  • Size: Studio / 1 Bath (~440 sq ft)
  • Status: Fully furnished, in-unit washer/dryer, high-impact windows. Tenant currently month-to-month at $1,800/mo (can keep tenant or deliver vacant).

The Financials

  • Purchase Price: $230,000
  • HOA / Maintenance: $316/month ($3,792/year)
  • Property Taxes: ~$3,042/year (2025 tax bill)
  • Total Fixed Overhead: ~$6,834/year ($569/month)

Rental Yield Breakdown

  • Gross Income: $1,800/mo = $21,600/year
  • Net Income (Pre-Insurance/CapEx): $21,600 - $6,834 = $14,766/year
  • Unleveraged Cap Rate: ~6.4%

The Fine Print / Caveats (Read Before DMing)

  1. Co-Op / Cash Only: Traditional mortgages won't clear this due to the Co-Op structure. You need liquid cash.
  2. Not an Airbnb: Rental restrictions are 180-day minimum (max 2 leases per year). Requires board approval (1–2 weeks).
  3. Street Parking Only: No assigned spot.
  4. No Pets: Per building rules.

What do you guys think of this deal? For anyone tracking SoBe, is ~6.4% cap rate on a cash-only Co-Op worth the 180-day rental restriction, or are buyers better off looking further north for short-term flexibility?

Open to thoughts from local investors or anyone who owns in a Co-Op setup down here.

26F Living out of my car, and looking for work

Hey everyone! So I’m putting myself out there and hoping this reaches the right person. I’m currently looking for full time work and would genuinely appreciate any leads, opportunities, or resources. I have experience as a nanny, in hospitality, as an Eligibility Consultant for Aetna CVS, and as a Direct Support Professional supporting children and adults with behavioral challenges. I’m CPR certified through the American Red Cross and Medication Administration certified, and I have photos, and reviews, from families I’ve worked with as a nanny. Right now I’m doing Uber while working toward getting myself back to stability, and I’m currently living out of my car. I’m resume ready, reliable, hardworking, personable, and willing to work. I’m open to childcare, customer service, hospitality, retail, stock associate positions, or other opportunities where I can contribute. If you know of anyone hiring or have employment or housing resources that could help, I’d truly appreciate a lead or share. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this and treats my situation with kindness.✨
