I started using walks as my new way to catch up with people

One thing I didn’t expect when I started walking more around Miami is how much it changed the way I see hanging out with friends.

I’ve started inviting friends I haven’t talked to in a while to go on a walk instead of doing the usual coffee, drinks, or dinner. And honestly, 99% of the time, they’re excited about it.

Especially when I already know a good route or loop.
You’re not just walking for the sake of walking. You have somewhere to go, something new to see, maybe a neighborhood you’ve never explored. And because the route is a loop, you’re constantly moving, changing scenery, and discovering something together, but the best part is the conversation.

You’re walking next to someone for an hour, actually listening to each other and catching up without constantly looking at your phone or feeling like you need to order another drink to justify sitting there.
It also works really well with friends who are “too busy.”

Instead of trying to find two hours for dinner, you can say, “Let’s walk tomorrow morning,” or “Let’s do a quick walk after work.” Even 45 minutes.

You get some exercise, you get outside, you discover a part of the city you probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise, and you catch up with someone you care about. And honestly, I think that’s what walking does really well.

It gives you a reason to spend time with people without making the activity itself the entire point.
You’re just walking somewhere together.
And somehow, that makes it much easier to actually reconnect.

I found a walk in Coral Gables that feels like you left Miami 9.5/10

I’ve been walking different parts of Miami trying to find the routes that are actually worth doing, and this one is easily one of my favorites so far.

The Grand Estates Loop takes you through quiet Coral Gables streets covered by huge oak trees, with beautiful Mediterranean-style homes, gardens, and some seriously impressive estates along the way.

It’s the kind of walk where you can slow down, look around, and forget you’re still in Miami.

Start: Granada Golf Course 2001 Granada Blvd, Coral Gables
Parking: Free parking at Granada Golf Course
Coffee: Le Parc Bonjour Café Bistro
What I loved:
Huge oak canopy
Beautiful estates
Mediterranean architecture
Quiet streets
Gardens and little details everywhere

Fun fact: Part of this loop passes through Coral Estates, a neighborhood that began developing in the 1930s. Some of the homes along the route date back to 1937.

⭐️ Rating: 9.5/10
🚶 Distance: ~2.9 miles
⏱️ Time: ~95 minutes
👟 Steps: ~8,200

Plug Tip
Go early in the morning. The light through the oak canopy is beautiful, and the neighborhood is much quieter.

I’m continuing my mission to find the best walks in Miami

For those of you who know Coral Gables, what did I miss? Is there another neighborhood or street I should add to my list?

I found one of my favorite walks in Miami — 4.7-5

I’ve been trying to find walks around Miami that actually make me want to keep walking, and this Brickell loop might be one of my favorites so far.

Start: Publix at 134 SW 13th St.
From there, head toward Vizcaya Metro-station and The Underline and follow the trail from there.

You start from the Publix walk around the underline, cross a pedestrian bridge, and then suddenly you’re surrounded by trees. It genuinely feels like you went from downtown Miami into a little tropical forest.

From there, you make your way toward Alice Wainwright Park, which I think is seriously underrated. You get the trees, Biscayne Bay, and some absolutely insane mansions along Brickell Ave.

Fun fact: one of those estates was previously owned by Adrienne Arsht before Ken Griffin, the founder of Citadel, bought it for $106.9M.

Then you make your way back toward Brickell, where you get the water, skyline, and some of the best views of the walk.

Full loop: ~1h 45m / ~10,500 steps
Shorter version: ~1h 20m / ~8,000 steps
My rating: 4.7/5 ⭐

For parking, I street-parked right in front of the Publix. You can also park at Publix, but I’d check the signs before leaving your car there.
Honestly, this is the kind of walk that makes Miami feel like a completely different city.

What’s your favorite walk in Miami? I’m looking for the next one to try!

I’ve been walking all over Miami and I think people underestimate how many great walks there are

Ive been doing 10–20K steps a day lately, and one of the coolest things it’s made me realize is how differently you experience Miami when you actually explore it on foot.
I’ve started intentionally picking a different neighborhood or area and building a walk around it instead of just doing the same route every day.
Coral Gables, Brickell, Coconut Grove, Miami Beach, etc. there are some surprisingly beautiful walks if you know where to look.
I’ve actually started putting together my own list of favorite walking routes around Miami.
For the people who live here: what’s the best walk in Miami that you think more people should know about?
I’m especially looking for routes that are:
3–6+ miles
Interesting to explore
Beautiful / scenic
Actually enjoyable to walk, not just “technically walkable”
Curious to see if there are any good ones I’m missing.

I started walking 20K steps a day and it completely changed how I see my city

I’m a pretty active person, so I always thought walking was kind of boring. I preferred playing sports, going to the gym, etc. a while ago I started aiming for 20K steps a day, and honestly, it changed my relationship with walking. I started noticing how much of my city I had never actually explored.
Lately I’ve been doing something a little different: instead of taking the same walks around my neighborhood, I’ve been intentionally changing my routes and trying to discover different parts of the city.
I’ve started thinking of it almost like having a personal “class pass” for walking..every day I pick a different area, neighborhood, or destination and make a walk out of it.
It’s made walking way more interesting to me.
Does anyone else do this? Do you intentionally seek out new routes/neighborhoods to walk through, or do you mostly stick to the same routes?
