Forte dei Marmi vs GAIA vs COTE — worth it?

Planning my first Miami trip and trying to finalize our dinner itinerary. We already have spots like MILA, Casa Tua, Sunnys, Carbone, etc. booked, but I keep going back and forth between:

  • Forte dei Marmi
  • GAIA Miami
  • COTE Miami

For people who actually go out/eat in Miami often:

  • Which one is the most worth it overall?
  • Best actual food vs just vibes?
  • Which feels the most “special” for a first Miami trip?
  • Is GAIA worth the hype since it just opened?
  • Is Forte too similar to Carbone/Casa Tua vibe-wise?
  • If you could only pick ONE, which would you choose and why?

To all the Cubans in this subreddit.

There is a strong possibility that the US intervenes in your country in the next few days and topples the dictatorship. Please for the love of God don't block the Palmetto or other major highways to celebrate, there are other people commuting to and from work. Thank you for your attention.

Received 3 day default notice “served” at my apt today

So I don’t know where to begin, I have lived in my apartment for three years and we have gone through multiple property management companies, and this newest one took away our online portal to pay our rent electronically and made us mail it and I am in an old building where I have had mail stolen by usps (multiple complaints with usps postal inspector made) and I have driven far to different USPS locations to mail my rent check days before it was due, even though they are located in Miami also and mailed it priority with signed receipt require required.

I have constantly received emails from the property management company that I owe money for not paying my rent when I have done this until I sent them photos of the check that I sent as well as videos of me at the post office doing it with all of the above and looking online And replying with a screenshot that shows it was received and signed by x person at their office.

They go radio silent after that until they send me an email stating I owe rent for Juan Gonzales at apartment 8 at my address - I’m Carlos Betancourt in apartment 2 at the address. This has happened since they took over management of my building two years ago, but with emails about owing rent with other people’s name tied to my apartment number as well as the aforementioned.

Two months ago I sent a check and video like I always do as well as a photo of the check and the envelope stamped, 4 days before the end of month and on the 7th I got an email saying I owe $200 late fee on top of my rent and I replied with all of the picture and video documentation I had taken like I always do just for my safety and they went radio silent and stopped replying to my emails - listen I only want to converse with these people by email because they are so inept and I need all documented if and when I told them to take me to court. They will only rep reply, saying we can only talk about this on the phone.

Today I walked out and found this in the hallway (pretty much at my neighbors floor, lol) saying now I owe money (last month they set it up so we can wire transfer to their account and I did, photos and all)

I’ve never used a lawyer in my life, but is there anybody here that can guide me because to my knowledge I can’t be served if I didn’t physically receive the paperwork myself and also I paid my rent and the only thing that they were trying to charge me for and the only ongoing issue I have with them is the $200 late fee from before that I wasn’t wrong on.

I pay my rent 5-10 days before the first of the month for years, shit I paid my first year up front to get in here as I was buying a house with my girl and we split and I needed a new place asap

This is a joke. $0 credit card or other debt and I pay rent early since I was 18 in like 10-12 places at this point

Any advice? This got me super heated

Thirty years after deadly plane shoot-down, Raúl Castro indicted by the U.S.

For many Cuban-Americans, winning a case in court is not the point. The point is that Cuban leadership, most importantly Raúl Castro, feel pressured to step down after the indictment has been made public.

Cuban Americans go to war for Cuba

Likely, any sort of regime change in cuba would involve boots on the ground. Nearly every cuban ive met in miami is passionately anti castro and communism. If so passionate, why hasnt the diaspora of cubans gotten together , like castro did, and attempt a coup? Could even be backed by the US military if rubio got involved

Balloon museum. Worth it or just Instagram BS?

I was thinking about maybe bringing my 12 year-old, but I don’t want it to be like a Willy Wonka or a Barbie Dreamhouse experience, lol. Where is the ice cream museum better?

That moment when you realize your Miami roof isn’t ready for another hurricane season

Grew up in South Florida and I’ve been on roofs around Miami and Broward for over 20 years. Every single year right around now I see the same pattern, people thinking their roof “looks fine” until the first tropical storm or heavy rain hits and suddenly there’s water in the house.

Last year a neighbor in Edgewater had a perfectly normal-looking barrel tile roof. One afternoon storm later and water was running down the interior wall. Turned out the underlayment around the valleys and flashing had dried out and cracked, classic South Florida aging issue that most people don’t think about until it’s too late.

Anyone else seeing early leak calls or insurance stress this spring? Or am I the only one watching roofs like it’s my full-time hobby?

How to sell a condo that needs a lot of work?

I have a condo that needs to be completely redone and I’m not sure the best way to sell it. Should I fix it myself? Is it worth it? It’s a really big job, nothing is savable. But I know the market is tough for condos to sell even in good shape after Surfside. It’s a 2 story building so it’s not subject to the same rules and other things are selling in the complex but not in this shape.

Why does Flagler Street still feel dead after all the redevelopment?

What’s going on with Flagler Street in Downtown Miami? I moved out of the Vizcayne building in April 2024, and now, just two years later, I’m actually buying an apartment there.

But honestly… even though Flagler Street itself looks “finished” from the construction side, the area still feels dirty, empty, smells bad, and there aren’t many new businesses opening. What happened? Is this supposed to improve soon?

What confuses me is that other parts of Downtown/Overtown around the Worldcenter area look amazing now — everything feels new, clean, and almost like Brickell. But Flagler got completely redone and somehow still feels run down. Even Julia & Henry’s feels kind of dead compared to when it first opened.

I remember when I left in 2024, Downtown actually felt like it had momentum and things were getting better. Now it feels stalled.

Do you guys think this area is still improving long term, or is Flagler just struggling despite all the redevelopment money?

Tourist here, was there something I was missing?

Hello, tourist from Britain. Visited Miami recently and I have some thoughts on my trip. So I assume much of this was error on my part. I knew much more about cities such as New York, Chicago and San Francisco than Miami before visiting, and so when we went to Miami we mainly stayed in the Miami Beach area. We did also go to Brickell and we briefly went to Little Havana.

So I will say, the beaches and palm trees are gorgeous, and I loved much of the architecture. I know the rest will upset some of you but I want to be fair and honest.

I don't intend to be rude or offensive, but Little Havana was my favorite area, but the rest of the areas we visited felt a little...boring? At least when compared to the other cities I mentioned, Miami to us felt a bit soulless and underwhelming, and I assume we didn't go to the right areas. Sure, there was nightlife but aside from that and beaches we didn't experience much to do. Whereas in New York and Chicago, which have a very different and much more intense feel than Miami, it felt like there was near endless opportunities in each and a much more bustling sense of urban intensity. I would also, as a Londoner, say that both of those cities felt much more cosmopolitan and "global" to me with world class museums and more communities to explore. I did appreciate how Miami was very slow paced compared to New York, Chicago or London. Maybe I'm comparing it too much to those cities and setting unrealistic standards rather than appreciating it for what it is.

Was there something we did wrong or anywhere else you recommend going? I want to give Miami a second chance and see more local sights, instead of writing Miami off completely.
