A three-judge panel declined to consolidate the lawsuits against the assault weapons ban in Virginia.

"Separate cases have already presented arguments and declarations on the issue of whether a preliminary injunction should be granted in the various jurisdictions where the cases are filed," the ruling from the panel states. "Further the courts have ruled on those preliminary injunctions in three of the four cases. It is too late to properly prevent inconsistent rulings."

Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi is calling for a longer review process of the Dominion NextEra merger than current law allows.

The only option at this point to extend the review timeline would be for Gov. Spanberger to include it in her budget amendments. Spanberger's office declined to comment for this story.

Torian, Lucas, and Spanberger met this morning while budget conferees were also in Richmond to meet. There was a promising feeling in recent days that a deal could be made for a full budget, but that all blew up this morning.

Gov. Spanberger officially vetoed legislation that would establish a retail marijuana market.

“The Governor’s veto ignores the reality that cannabis is already being sold everyday across Virginia,” the legislation's sponsors Sen. Aird and Del. Krizek said in a joint statement. “The only question is whether we as leaders will finally ensure those sales occur within a legal, regulated market or continue turning a blind eye to a booming illicit market while pretending to be outraged by its existence.”
