Tips for newbie to find good gun fit

Hey there, gun friends,

I'm a woman going into a pretty heavy travel career and looking to find a handgun that will work well for me. Eventually plan on conceal carry. I'm around the Richmond/RVA area.

I want to try a few different guns to see what fits well and doesn't recoil too hard for me. Been a good many years since I've even held a gun.

Also open to classes that will let me shoot a few different guns to find my fit.

Appreciate any and all advise. Thank you!

Looks like PSA stopped shipping again.

Was looking to help a friend. Called Freedom and they're still transferring. Went to PSA because I thought they were still shipping, and they blocked the FFL process of checkout. When did this change?

Edit: I made this post because the day the injunction dropped they had a banner stating they would keep shipping.

CCW question

Looking to get my ccw, however I’m seeing that a lot of places are offering Utah non resident carry permits along side the normal VA carry, is it worth it to get both and is applying for it hard?

Where to handle different optics?

I'm in need of some new optics, but I haven't been shooting much in the last 10 years, so I'm not up to date with current offering. I've got astigmatism so I would really like to test out different options prior to purchase. I'm looking to test reflex, prism, and holographic. I'd been planning on going to the Dulles gun show for this like I have in the past, but it keeps getting cancelled. Are there any resources to test different optics around nova? Video link for attention and for America 250

Looking for some CCW insight

Moving here for work. I get it: "move somewhere else." That's not an option currently, so here we are. I come from an already ban state, but I do have my concealed handgun permit in 2 other states in New England and want to get my VA permit.

What are the steps I need to take? Do I need to take a class here or is my current licenses to carry good to show I am proficient in firearm safety, or do I need to contact the VSP? We don't close on our house until the end of the month, so would it make sense to apply now as an out-of-state resident, then re apply once I have an actual VA address, or just wait?

Injunction counties

Does anybody know any local gun shops in the counties that are protected in the injunction that will still accept rifle orders. Chesapeake shows as an injunction county but Chesapeake pawn and gun refused my buddy’s rifle order.

So What Happens?

So what happens in the following circumstances if one plays out over the new few months or year?

  1. State Supreme Court declares the bans unconstitutional. Do gun stores and out of state vendors immediately begin sales or hold off?
  2. Supreme Court rules AWBs unconstitutional next June. Do gun stores and vendors restart sales, even to draconian states like California and New Jersey?

I think the offending states will probably have something up their sleeves to circumvent any decision that goes against them.

Va. legislature delays new open carry law for 1 year

So this is why the AW carrying prohibition was delayed a year. Sounds like they don't have a good grasp of the things they are trying to regulate!

Gunsmith Recommends

I bought parts to make my panic buy collection (fully) semi-automatic. The installation is a bit out of my mechanical capabilities.

Anyone know a gunsmith in NOVA thats reliable and works quickly?

Almost touched grass today, does gravel count? What I brought out for the 4th of July

We have a 4th of July machinegun shoot at my local range. Running a subgun bay and decided to bring out mostly 9mm stuff as it was over 100 out and we were not expecting a big turn out. All transferable, at least in a free state(Va sadly).

People who are smarter than me, what is going on with these injunctions?

Hi. Pic for attention. I’m dumb. I usually despise posts like this but there are so many moving parts and misinformation/clickbait YouTube videos (Armed Scholar - Types) that I don’t really have a clear picture of what’s actually going on with these injunctions, the DOJ lawsuits, the AWB cases in October, that I’m really just left wondering…what do all of these things mean?

My main question is, like most others, if the injunctions end up being recognized by all law enforcement/counties, will we be able to purchase “banned” items? If we do, what would it take to be able to keep them post-December, or 1 year, or whatever the hell the injunctions are stating.

From a “perfect” timeline stance, what needs to happen? Injunctions are recognized, FFL’s/online retailers open shop for transfer/purchases to VA, DOJ blocks the ban indefinitely, then SC makes a ruling to uphold this federally (meaning all states are free?).

Again, I’m confused. Please feel free to chime in.

May and June’s purchases thanks to FOMO

My new additions that aren’t ar-10s or ar-15s while I still could. Hopefully things are overturned and I’ll eventually be able to get the stuff I missed.

Don't Give Up

As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, things may look grim here in Virginia with the new legislation. But in reality, I believe gun control is on life support. Thirty years of what anti-gun activists have called "progress" toward banning firearms in a handful of states may ultimately be reversed.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the focus was on banning handguns. That effort failed (see Handgun Control Inc/Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act), so the attention shifted to semi-automatic rifles. Now, with the Supreme Court agreeing to hear the AR-15 case, I believe we may be approaching another huge-win and gun control is essentially on life-support. Legislatures will almost certainly continue introducing new restrictions, but just as happened with handguns, I think gun owners will continue to gain huge ground through the courts.

Before the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, AR-15 ownership was nowhere near as widespread as it is today. Ironically, many believe that the debate surrounding the ban helped fuel interest in the platform. Today, AR-15-style rifles are owned by millions of Americans and are unquestionably in common use. History has repeatedly shown that attempts to ban a particular firearm often increase public awareness and demand rather than eliminate it.

Before I moved to America from England several years ago, and even when I was an exchange student here, I remember reading about how many states operated under "may-issue" concealed carry laws. That landscape has changed dramatically. Today, concealed carry permits are available on a shall-issue or permitless basis across the vast majority of the country.

From my perspective, gun control is losing momentum. I see many of these state-level bans, backed by organizations supported by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, as last-ditch efforts before the constitutional questions are more definitively settled by the courts.

So don't give in. Educate your friends, introduce new people to gun-ownership and bring them to the range, attend Lobby Day (in force) next year and vote in every election, because your rights depend on it, and support organizations like VCDL, GOA, and FPC.

And remember, the 2nd Amendment is not a partisan matter. Gun ownership is for everyone, including democrats, republicans, leftists, socialists and whoever else. Pushing bi-partisanship on the 2A is how we win long-term, so no one can drive a wedge between us.

I'm thankful to be in this country and quite frankly, not concerned that long-term the gun control matter will be settled. That said, we must keep fighting and never give in.
