Practice pads

I'm looking for a new practice pad to practice rudiments. Do you have any recommendations for a cheap one (I don't work yet, so I earn little money) that won't fall apart and get full of holes after a week of practice?

Besides the most cost-effective options, could you also send me some better options (even if more expensive) so I can add them to my shopping list for when I start working in a few years?

Also, I've seen some people making homemade pads. How do you make yours?

How can I protect my hearing?

I've been playing drums for a while now and recently received some warnings about precautions to take, such as protecting my hearing while practicing.

What headphones or IEMs do you recommend I buy just for practicing at home? (nothing for gigs or anything more professional like that)

Currently I only play with regular headphones, but the drum sound is still loud because they don't dampen it well, and I have to turn the music and metronome up very loud for them to "overpower" the drums.

I'd like options (whether headphones, IEMs, or other solutions) that can help me preserve my hearing and that aren't expensive, considering I'm young and not yet working.
