Illegal easement garden update

Listen. It was just grass, officer. I swear I meant no harm.

I spotted milkweed growing in the easement and I took it as a sign to make a pollinator patch.

I laid out cardboard, threw down mulch, and a week later I scattered zinnia seeds. I didn't expect them to take root and make it through the cardboard, but here we are. I decided to just plant zinnias and cleome this year, but I have a mix of native seeds to spread next year. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with my results. If someone needs to work in the easement, I don't care if they kill my plants. It cost me a whole $50 with mulch and seeds, and since they're just annuals I don't really care about their survival. (There has been no work in this easement in the last 5 years I've lived here. It's a gamble I'm comfortable taking.)

I did, however, ask all my neighbors if they would mind. No one was bothered by it, and one even encouraged it!

Port 666 and Scorchy

Mooncat getting even base coat

Mooncat Port 666 1 coat

Cracked Scorchy 1 coat

No top coat yet, waiting until the polish is fully dry

I'm so intimidated by layering magnetics because I have poor color theory, but this one worked out great! Excuse the mess, this is right after painting and before topcoat and cleanup. (I bite my cuticles from stress, clearly I'm stressed rn.)

70 ft hydrangea hedge video

You all liked my hedge so much that I figured I should share it some more! Here is a short video of them. ♥️

Video of my front yard

You all liked my flower bed so much the last time I posted it, so here is a little video of it. I need to get out and dig the baby redbuds and *annoying* bradford pears that have come from my neighbors tree but so far despite not watering in this hot summer the flower bed is doing great. Pick a wall color

Please excuse the mockup and the mess. We bought new floors and couches and I mapped it out with ikeas design tool.

I hate our current wall color and I'm looking for advice to coordinate the new flooring and new couches.

I have a cat with abdominal issues, which causes her to vomit multiple times a day. (She's fine according to the vet, she's just sensitive.) So a rug is out of the question. I know they finish a room, but it would just be impractical for us right now.

The artwork will be all changed, the entertainment center will also be changed.

Tiger lilly or Michigan Lilly?

I suspect tiger lilly and want to rip it out but I wanted to double check with you all in case it's the native variety. I did not plant this. It came up on its own in my flower bed, hence the suspicion of it being the invasive tiger lilly.

Got a new garden sign

My front yard was ripped up 3 years ago for a water line work and I decided to make a pollinator patch by the street. I kept the budget under $500 over the course of 3 years. I did this on a tight budget by propagating from plants I already had, buying starters of limelight hydrangeas for $10 each off of Etsy, and starting plants from seed. It has a lot of ornamental flowers and I snuck in quite a few more showy natives like liatris, Culver's root, coreopsis, phlox, and butterfly milkweed.

It's been over 100 degrees the last few weeks and I refuse to water, so it's looking a little rough but they all are surviving despite my neglect. It has definitely looked better in the previous years but I can't justify wasting water. Thankfully everything is pretty well established at this point and will be just fine.

Disregard the crabgrass in the front of the bed. I need to weed but it's been so hot the past few weeks.

Edit: Thank you for the award! ♥️ You made my day!

Edit edit: thank you kind anonymous stranger for the award!!! I can't believe my messy front garden is getting so much love!

Edit edit edit: stop giving me awards! Thank you everyone but save the money and donate it to a helpful cause. I appreciate the kindness but I don't deserve it, you silly geese. ♥️

Mountain mint pollinator magnet

My peppers aren't getting pollinator visits because they're too busy on the mountain mint. I'm suffering from my own success. I planted two different types of mountain mint 3 years ago and they have really taken off!

What variety of Asiatic lilly is this?

I don't recall planting her. I know I must've but I'm in awe of it's colors and want to buy more. Anyone know the specific cultivar? Disregard my weeds. It's hot and I don't wanna go pull them. 🤣

First cracked polish! "No Reservations"

Base coat - mooncat getting even

Main polish - cracked no reservations x2 coats magnetized cat eye style

Topcoat - Sally hansen insta dry red bottle magnetized again cat eye style.

Bought my first cracked polish and was not disappointed. It has the most beautiful shift from purple to pink. I like it even more than holo tacos playing the field, which says a lot because it was my favorite polish.

Bonus: it goes so well with my native purple poppy mallow!

Update on clearance bed

I found all these babies on sale at Menards for 50 cents to 3 dollars and posted a few weeks ago with my suv filled all the way.

Here's how well all my babies are doing after a couple weeks of care.

Don't sleep on damaged/clearance plants y'all! They come back stronger and healthier in my experience!

Also please don't hesitate to ask store associates politely for discounts on damaged plants you spot that aren't clearanced out yet. Most of the time they will mark them down for you on the spot.

What else should I be on the lookout for on clearance or do you think this bed is full enough?

Monarch on volunteer milkweed.

I let this volunteer milkweed grow and was rewarded with this beauty the other day. ♥️

I have a patch of milkweed in my backyard but I've never seen a monarch on them. Apparently they prefer the one that came up in my front flower bed that I didn't plant. Go figure.

Did I get fleeced?

I paid a company $1600 to seal my fireplace and fix a leak because the flashing was faulty. This is the work. Is it supposed to have a bend like that? The other side doesn't and I'm worried with incoming rain that it'll leak again.

70 ft limelight hedge update

I bought 22 little 3 inch plugs from Etsy for $10 each about 4 years ago and planted them all about 3 ft on center. I went out once a week for a year pinching the new growth to encourage my little sticks to become bushy. Today they stand a little over 5 ft tall! They haven't started blooming yet but once they do I'll be sure to update you all! I have never once trimmed them other than selective deadheading so this growth is a little uneven but I'm soooo proud! Do you have any tips on encouraging more evenness or should I just let it ride?

Got this note today about my "illegal" easement gardening.

My neighbor is literally the best neighbor anyone could ask for.

All I did was share some of my tall grasses and help her plant and mulch them along her fence line, and gave her a couple flowers I found on clearance.

She loves that I'm turning the easement into a little pollinator patch and gave me this note, some seeds, and a penstemon cultivar.

I was so worried that people would freak out and be against my plans but I've been pleasantly surprised. She actively supports it and even got the right mix of seeds to plant!

I'm so grateful to have such a wonderful neighbor and just had to brag a little.

The real question is whether or not I can plant them at this time of year. I suspect some need cold stratification but I really want to spread them now and have her see her gift grow.

Butterfly milkweed

Blackeyed Susan

Indian blanket

Lanceleaf coreopsis

Lemon mint

Maximillion sunflower

Purple prairie clover

Purple coneflower upright

White prairie clover

White yarrow

Edit: thank you for the award! You and my neighbor just made my entire week. ♥️♥️

Mountain mint two different varieties

Imma be real I can't remember which one is which. Or the scientific names. I winter sowed these 3 years ago in milk jug. Now look how big and beautiful they have become! Ones even starting to bloom! I'm so excited for all the little pollinators!

Purple poppy mallow

Just sharing a few photos of one of my favorite natives. (Callirhoe involucrata)

It's about 3 years old now and lives in part shade in a dry area. 6b

Edit: callirhoe triangulata is the actual species. Thank you for correcting me and helping me know what type I have!

Clearance plants - help reviving.

Got these crispy babies for $10 each. How do I prune them to best promote new growth and happy plants? Should I just chop all the brown off or just remove the leaves? The stems are still green with the scratch test.
