Basement paint color

My basement walls are currently a greige colour that I hate. I want to paint my basement a darker color, but I'm worried it'll suck all the lighting out of the room...

Am I stuck with using a light or white paint color, or can I get away with a darker option?

Thanks for your help!!

Trim painting or no?

The walls of our condo are currently stark white, but we’re planning to paint them a softer, creamier white—similar to the color in the attached photo.

Now I’m debating what to do with the trim: keep it stark white like in the photo, or paint it the same off-white as the walls, but in a slightly higher sheen? I’d love to see a mockup of this photo with the trim color matched to the walls if anyone is able to do one!

And lastly, I’d love to hear everyone’s best guesses for what the wall paint color is in the photo. 👀 I’ll share my guess in the comments later—I don’t want to bias anyone yet!

Advice on how to decorate room next to kitchen please

We have this angled wall on right off our kitchen & never quite known what to do with it. We’ve always liked the idea of having a small foldable dining room table, but what shape? Against the wall or off? Color? And if not what kind of alternative?
Also any advice on how/what to decorate the built in shelves with would be greatly appreciated!

Please Reddit, you’re my only hope🙇🏻‍♂️

How do I fit 2 dressers in this room??

My husband and I are moving into a new home that is currently being built. In our current home, we have 2 of these dressers- one with mirror, one without- and we have a lot of clothes and really need both! The layout of the new bedroom is different, and I'm worried we won't be able to fit both. I don't think we could put it in the closet either, due to lack of space there (the wall between closet and laundry room will have a door, so it's already going to limit closet space).

On the floor plan, the blue is where the bed will be, red will be where one dresser and I guess the TV will go. Would it look horrible to put a dresser under the Window, and use short curtains that hit at the top of the dresser? We do need blackout curtains, not sure if that would work, or if it would look bad? Not sure if i have any other options!

(Sorry, I can only attach one photo, so there's no photo attached of the dresser- I can put that in the comments if needed but it's a standard dresser)

Renovating a 1970s apartment (~107 m²): keep the living room on the south side, or turn it into the master bedroom?

I need to renovate a 1970s condo apartment, about 107 m².

Before I lock the layout I’d like an outside opinion.

Floor plan I digitized with AI, including measurements.

Orientation: north = kitchen and the small bedrooms.

South = living room + master bedroom, best light and a balcony.

https://preview.redd.it/3p014v1zyyjh1.png?width=2480&format=png&auto=webp&s=8888c7dbc75664c897be6b432803d9092cb5936f

Option 1 — original cadastral floor plan

- Living room south-west, ~23.7 m², south balcony. It’s the nicest room

- Master bedroom (Bedroom 3) south-east, ~16.6 m²

- Kitchen north, 9 m², separate but tight

- Bedroom 1 ~13 m² + Bedroom 2 ~13.7 m² on the north side

- 2 bathrooms + 2 small closets

- Feels like a real home, but the kitchen is small and there’s no laundry room

https://preview.redd.it/rl6oftbdyyjh1.png?width=705&format=png&auto=webp&s=56c76540430196f1c323ce3e1d9a8a73619edb91

Option 2 — flip everything (open-plan kitchen + living room)

- The master bedroom moves into the current living room (largest and brightest room)

- Kitchen + living become an open plan on the north side (23 m² total)

- Large walk-in closet in the centre

- Bedroom 1 becomes a narrow study

- Upside: huge master bedroom and a generous closet

- The problem: I lose the living room. Kitchen and living are joined. And it breaks the 1970s logic (day rooms south, night rooms east/north). On paper it throws me off

https://preview.redd.it/zahlqw7iyyjh1.png?width=669&format=png&auto=webp&s=7e612619df68d31b996263a67d89d448c71696c6

The dilemma:

Part of me wants Option 2 for the master bedroom and the closet.

The other part already hates the idea of losing the living room. If it bothers me on paper, it will bother me every day.

Which would you pick, and why?

Is Option 2 worth killing the living room, or is Option 1 (keeping everything original) the right choice?

Thanks

Where would you hang outside mount blinds?

Will be hanging 3 blinds total for these 3 windows. Would you hang 2” white wood blinds above the molding or on the molding? Would you extend them beyond the molding sides or even with the outside edge of the molding? I will be getting two blinds for the double window, but would you divide the header on the blind so each window has their own header or keep one long header for the 2 blinds and 1 regular header for the third window?

Need help picking a rug

Would be so grateful for some help picking a rug for this space. I really struggle to imagine how a space would look with a different rug.

This is the rug I already had, and tried to make it work, but I feel like it's a bit too small for the space and maybe not the right color to bring out the couch.
Let me know what you think about this! The couch is a light blue denim couch. Would be so grateful for thoughts on which carpet would look best in the space or if you have any thoughts about the space more generally. It's a beautiful room!! And I still need to put some more art on the walls.

Living room help!

Aside from baby clutter and using what I already have, what would you do to this space? I’ve gone through a few different layouts and I’m just not sold on anything I try in here. My husband and I both teach music lessons, so the piano is important, BUT I still want it to be comfortable for us as a family with a 15 month old while also feeling open for our students and their parents.

I’m open to other furniture ideas, or for sure taking things out, we just don’t have a lot of money to dedicate to home furnishings at the moment!

Also- very aware that the painting by the loveseat is too high 🙃 there happened to be a large hook there when we moved in, so up it went!

Please help me fix our living room!

Hi! Right now our living room feels like it has no theme or aesthetic, and rather just a cluster of things we have collected. Thinking I could use a better rug? Or update the wall? Any advice appreciated. Thank you!

Roller shades for large sliding glass doors - Black or White

Hello - new build home with 20' sliding glass door. It's gorgeous! We are getting ready to add roller shades and I'm not sure if I should go with Black roller shades or White roller shades.

I'm leaning towards the white! What do you think?

Also - ignore those dark leather sofas. My husband is so attached to them and won't let me get anything different :-( I find them less-than-cozy in our main space, but he cannot be reasoned with! ha!

New Apartment Living Room Setup Help

Just moved into a new apartment (30m) and looking for advice on living room setup. There's another bare wall and entry into the LR out of view to the left of the photo. I clearly have some items already and want to work around what I have. I'm thinking on tackling color schemes coming from the rug in different parts of furniture. There's a decent amount of browns including a wood coffee table, bookcase and dining room table (DR attached to living room) and the two couches are brown/charcoal (ish) mix made from a polyester fiber. There's a black entertainment stand will most likely be gone. Debating sanding and staining/wood oiling the bookcase and coffee table.

I'm next looking to get different and heavier curtains but because there will be 6 easily in view, I want to get the right color/material. Not sure if I should do a different shade of the wall but I was leaning toward more of an earthy green/moss. One or two dark red/maroon throw pillows that match with aspects of the rug. I've found a couple side tables, but it's more wood and I don't want to over do it.

Clearly, there's a lot more to add and move around(I did just move in) Shelves, plants, entertainment center, wall art, floor/table lamps and hopefully rug for dining room (can't see in pic) I'd love to hear people's input and advice! Thanks!

What to do with this nook?

Hi everyone

Our soon-to-be-babyroom has this little nook in the corner of the room. Any original ideas on what to do with it?

(The small crate can be removed).

Thanks!

Which curtain option looks best in my home? Floor to ceiling curtains, or curtains that start right above the window?

HELP! How to layout tiny weird shape living/dining area?!

I’m extremely lost creating a comfortable living & dining area in my odd shaped tiny home. We built (ongoing project in many ways) our tiny him inside of a metal shop building.
We ( family of 3) enjoy a mid century modern style & thinking I need to lean into the cottage feel because of reclaimed wood and tin.
Shopping online for a modular sofa has me lost trying to figure out a layout.
Here’s some pictures of our space . I tried to include a lotta angles for it to all make sense along with a “blueprint” I drew up of our weird shape.
I’m terrified of buying furniture that is too large for our space and desperately want to get it feeling comfortable again.
We need a dining table area to seat 4 and a couch large enough for a grown man (5’10”??) to lay on.
Dang.. how the heck do you upload multiple pictures?!

Challenge: Help fake a fancy home office for Zoom — dress up ONE wall (and maybe ceiling) of an unfinished basement

I have an old friend who wants to fake a fancy home office in his unfinished basement — just for Zoom meetings. He’s not finishing the basement or using it for anything else; he just needs to dress up ONE wall (or maybe even just part of a wall, or maybe create a false wall or something) PLUS any part of the ceiling that would show on camera (if you think it’s necessary).

Photos 1 and 2 are opposite ends of a big long room. Photos 3 and 4 are opposite walls of what should be a guest bedroom. He said the ceilings are low.

Any ideas? Which part of the basement would be best? Should the windows be part of the background, or should he face them? Thank you in advance for any thoughts, ideas, renderings, pics, links…anything! :)
