How do you find your next read/book?
I like reading fiction novels and am a vivid fan of character-driven thrillers or adventure stories. I’ve been lately struggling to find books to read for my taste and I’ve been so far mostly checking internet pages, AI tools, and Instagram accounts for recommendations.
In between some failures I managed to find some captivating, some okay, and some horrible books and ordered them online and read them. And today I decided to go to Dussmann to pick my next book by going through the first couple of pages and breathing the smell of paper in. This was my way before covid to pick my books and I rarely remember reading bad books. But my experience at Dussmann today was different (da dan (dramatic music)).
While checking books today I was genuinely overwhelmed. There were soooo many books. Omg! Like before when I went to a bookshop the book selections were high quality. There was something different. But now when I go check the fantasy section for example there are 200 different books and 95% is big bad king must be stopped by the chosen one. Or I go to the thriller section and a mysterious body showed up one morning and the local detective in a small town must solve this crime.
After all this I still didn’t wanna be judgy and went through a couple of pages for different titles to give them a chance, but it’s not like even the writing was good or unique. I was genuinely lost in a pile of garbage. It almost felt like anyone who is over their mid-30s got bored and decided to be a writer during their midlife crisis.
This has turned into a bit of a rant as well, but I am also curious how people pick their next read these days?
