We've been accepted as a host family (clean background check, interview etc) and 2x now students have backed out because my husband is an immigrant from the country of the student we're looking to host. He came here as a child and is more American than his birth country.

We want to host a child from this country because we enjoy the culture and want to do something to help students from that country.

We are a wonderful family, very active in lots of things and we're really looking forward to giving the child a great American experience and share in a culture we both know and appreciate.

Has anyone had the exchange student back out or had the exchange students organization reject you?

I am sure there are countries where students come from Spanish speaking countries and come to an American household where someone speaks Spanish and it has not been a big deal. I'm not sure why it is a big deal for this country.

Am I alone? This has happened 2x. If this happens again we will be done attempting to host an exchange student. And from what I've heard exchange student homes are hard to find.
