Balancing lifestyle vs proximity to family (Fort Worth vs Austin)

My fiancée and I are both originally from Dallas and both of our families are still there. We moved to Nashville about 3 years ago for a change of pace, new scenery, and just something different for a while.

We’ve really enjoyed parts of it, but as time goes on, we’re starting to feel the distance more. We miss a lot of family events, make frequent trips back for holidays/birthdays, and are realizing we probably want to be closer long term as our parents get older.

At the same time, living in TN made us realize how much we value scenery, greenery, and access to outdoors. The hard part is that while we miss family a lot, neither of us really feels excited about moving back to Dallas specifically.

Right now we’re mainly considering Fort Worth or Austin. Fort Worth seems like it could be a good middle ground while Austin obviously checks more of the lifestyle/outdoors boxes, but puts us a bit farther from family.

I think the biggest thing we’re struggling with right now is balancing lifestyle/preferences with wanting to be closer to family. Curious if anyone else has gone through something similar and how you ultimately thought about it or made peace with the tradeoff.

For context, we both work remotely, would likely rent for at least the first year wherever we move, and kids are still a few years off.

Torn between family proximity and lifestyle (Dallas vs Fort Worth vs Austin)

My fiancee and I are both originally from Dallas and both of our families are still there. We moved to Nashville about 3 years ago for a change of pace, new scenery, and just something different for a while.

We’ve really enjoyed parts of it, but as time goes on, we’re starting to feel the distance more. We miss a lot of family events, make frequent trips back for holidays/birthdays, and are realizing we probably want to be closer long term.

I know Dallas objectively is a good place to live but being in TN made me realize how much I value scenery, greenery, and access to outdoors. That’s probably the biggest thing I feel like Dallas lacks for me personally, and my fiancee feels pretty similarly.

Right now we’re considering Fort Worth or Austin instead and would genuinely love input from people who’ve lived in either, or honestly anyone who’s dealt with balancing lifestyle/preferences with wanting to be closer to family. I think that’s the biggest thing we’re struggling with right now. Does Fort Worth actually feel meaningfully different from Dallas day to day? And for those in Austin, does the lifestyle/outdoors aspect still outweigh the cost and traffic for you, especially if being within reasonable driving distance of family in DFW is important?

For context, we both work remotely, would likely rent for at least the first year wherever we move, and kids are still a few years off.

Birth control timing question — can I shift my period earlier now?

I’m on Tri-Sprintec and trying to avoid getting my period during my wedding/honeymoon week in early December.

Today I’m supposed to start Week 3 pills (haven’t taken today’s pill yet). After counting things out, it looks like my placebo week could fall right around that time.

Would it make sense to start the Week 4/placebo pills early now to try shifting my cycle earlier long term? Or would that just make things more irregular/cause spotting later?

I know skipping placebo pills closer to the wedding is another option, but I’m curious if anyone has successfully shifted their cycle months in advance by changing packs early.

Just looking for personal experiences before I ask my doctor.

Anyone worked at a company that uses Hubstaff?

Not actively job searching right now, but I had a recruiter reach out recently for a fully remote role that honestly seems pretty solid. Company looks good, pay would be a nice bump, and Glassdoor reviews are mostly positive.

Only thing that gave me pause was seeing multiple mentions of Hubstaff in reviews. I’d never heard of it before, but from what I can tell it’s employee tracking/time monitoring software used a lot with remote teams?

Curious if anyone here has experience with companies that use it. Is it one of those things that sounds worse than it is, or is it actually as intrusive as some people make it seem?

Also, would you bring this up during the interview process or just feel things out first? I really value flexibility/autonomy and don’t want to get halfway through the process before finding out it’s super micromanage-y.
