Built a tool that converts SVG files into native Onshape sketch geometry (not just flat imports)

Hey all — long-time Onshape user, wanted to share something I've been building and using in production.

The problem: Getting vector artwork (logos, cutout profiles, panel designs, icons) into Onshape as real, editable sketch geometry is annoying. DXF import can be inconsistent, and manually retracing SVGs with the sketch tools is a time sink.

What I built: A web tool that takes an SVG file and converts it into native Onshape sketch entities — proper lines, arcs, and fitted splines — using a custom FeatureScript feature under the hood. It's not a raster/image import or a dumb flattened curve; it comes in as real sketch geometry you can constrain and edit normally.

Features:

  • Upload SVG → get native sketch geometry in your Part Studio
  • Target width parameter to scale on import
  • Drag manipulators for X/Y position, rotation, and scale — right in the sketch, no re-import needed to reposition
  • Currently extending it to accept raster images (PNG/JPG) too, via an image-to-vector preprocessing step

Status: It's fully functional and I use it daily, but it hasn't been approved on the Onshape App Store yet. So for now it's a standalone external web app you use alongside Onshape rather than an in-app extension.

Custom Tool need to be added : https://cad.onshape.com/documents/c201c83c91a83aade27337d1/v/fa88b35f1753d1f6f757a891/e/09d98a5bdcf6272e418d3ec2

Link: https://svgto-onshape.vercel.app

You'll need your Onshape document/workspace/element IDs (visible in your document URL) to point the tool at the right place.

Happy to answer questions about the workflow, limitations, or what it can/can't handle geometry-wise. Feedback welcome — especially edge cases that break it.

Custom Feature: Triad Transform

Traid Transform tools facilitate part manipulation within the part studio. Unlike standard transform tools, they enable simultaneous movement and rotation within a single feature, eliminating the need for multiple transformations.

Real Time Braking in RR3

Hey everyone.

I have been observing the game physics mostly while playing the more corner tracks.

Continuous brake : while applying the brake without removing the pedal while taking the corner from high speed, even though the car slows down, the car gets skidding ~ at least a bit skid.

Applying multiple brakes : same track, same speed, same braking time, but the car takes a smooth corner without any skid.

I thought it's a game and doesn't follow real time braking physics, but it does and it's been changing for every car.

If we take the advanced cars, the car slows down and does not skidding even at 150km/hr

But if you take the same company old car for ( Porsche ) hyper car, it gets skid even at 130km/hr at corner.

I just want to know, am I the only one feeling like that or is it just an illusion ?

Custom tools or addons

I would like to know, do we have any library for addons that helps to speed up the workflow for solidworks?

I have tried looking for and mostly finding paid i think so.

Curated a library of 60+ Fusion 360 Addons to speed up workflows.

Hey everyone,

I have created a library of 60+ Fusion 360 Addons & Scripts: Export automation, sketch macros, and workspace optimizations.

To fix that, I built an organized, free database on my site mapping out verified tools to automate repetitive tasks:

No walls of text, just a clean grid categorized by what the tool actually does so you can find what you need in seconds.

Check it out and bookmark it for your next project: Chandraawesome Studio

Let me know if there are any essential, hidden-gem scripts I missed so I can add them to the database!

Curated a library of 100+ Onshape Custom Features to speed up workflows.

Hey everyone,

Are you aware of having a tool to speed up your cad workflow?

Onshape have 100+ Custom Tools / FeatureScripts: Advanced patterning, automated geometry generation, and modeling shortcuts and they all are scattered.

To fix that, I built an organized, free database on my site mapping out verified tools to automate repetitive tasks:

No walls of text, just a clean grid categorized by what the tool actually does so you can find what you need in seconds.

The value of 5 milli seconds 💀

I just want to show my last gameplay in rr3 where this specific win gives me high.

At the same time, i would like to know the penalties in real racing compared to real racing 3.

I know few like off track the most common penalty i get. To feel the game more real, i would like to what more I should consider ?

I got tired of scattering my work across YouTube, marketplaces, and CAD links, so I built a central hub to bring them all together.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share a platform setup I’ve been building for the community. If you're anything like me, your 3D modeling files, rendering projects, freelance client reviews, and video content are probably split across four different websites.

I built a central command center from scratch using a Bento grid layout to clean up the clutter.

The idea is complete transparency for my niche. If you want to check out my simulation vehicle models or assemblies, you don't just see a picture—the platform routes you straight into the public Onshape workspace to copy the geometry or download the files.

I've also integrated my marketplace shop directly (sorting free Onshape files from premium Cults3D models) alongside live feeds for my video content and actual client project feedback.

It's a way to keep my engineering workflows completely open-source and easy to navigate.

If you want to check out the structure or clone some free setups, take a look here: [https://chandraawesome-dda21.web.app\]

Would love to hear your feedback on the layout or how easily the external workspaces open up for you!

Modifying an imported static toy truck into a functional RC model (Part 1: Steering Axle mechanics in Onshape)

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a mechanical design workflow project I just started. Most tutorials show you how to design a part from scratch, but I wanted to tackle a common real-world problem: taking an imported, completely locked/static model and retrofitting it with functional mechanics.

I'm doing a 6-part series converting a static toy truck design into an RC truck, and I just uploaded Part 1 covering the Steering Axle Design.

Instead of manually editing everything on both sides, I used an optimization trick in the Onshape feature tree: designing the hubs and steering linkage on the parent part and rolling them back above the mirror operation so the entire assembly constraints mirror over flawlessly.

I went over:

Setting up non-destructive part studios for modifications.

Creating the geometric layout for the wheel hubs to allow proper turning clearances.

Drafting the horizontal linkages.

If you're interested in the mechanical layout or just want to see how to manage complex edits on top of pre-existing imports without breaking the geometry tree, check out the video here: https://youtu.be/1gfqAvDycrY

I'd love to get your feedback on the linkage layout or any tips you have for rigging steering kinematics smoothly in browser-based CAD environments!

How do you drive in RR3 ?

Well I'm a Wheel Lover which gives me complete control even on a small turns. I had practiced to get the wheel habited.

I wonder which other controls are optional according to your game play experience.

I made a tutorial showing how to design a Radial Engine in Onshape.

Tried to break down the modeling workflow and major engine components clearly for anyone interested in CAD or mechanical design.

Would love feedback from other CAD users and engine enthusiasts.

Finally I'm able to play the RR3

Hi Guys. I'm the one of you all the very big fan of real racing 3 game. Honestly I knew about racing after Cars movie and rr3 gaming only.

Well till two days before I'm playing the original game apk because I haven't uninstalled it from long time. Once the servers down, my all cars went to shed. No service working no buying happening. All my gold and Ms went for upgrading and servicing exiting cars.

As till day before yesterday all my rs, ms and gold empty and decided to uninstall the game.

Once I watch and read the posts about the nascar events. I'm insisted to install again the mod version.

I have struggled for two days to let the game working correctly, by downloading zip files, extracting, testing - repeat,

At last it worked correctly by following the few settings :

  • Once you downloaded the 6GB or 5.58GM ( something near ) zip files and also installed the RR3 preservation apk.
  • Install the app, open it, it will ask you download, but click on exit and close it from recent apps as well.
  • Now installed zachiver apk ( playstore )and shizuku apk ( GitHub or external website)
  • Install zachiver and install shizuku.
  • Once installed shizuku, choose wireless connection
  • Enable notifications and developer options as it instructed in app itself.
  • Once you pair, start it.
    • ( If you find the server not starting, go to developer settings, enable "disable permission monitoring" and " usb debugging" )
  • Then start again, you will see the message saying service started
  • Now go to zachiver -settings-root-choose shizuku - enable the three toogles it shows ( these toogles helps extract the files correctly without missing and faster )
  • Now extract the 6GB file to Android-data- and paste it.
  • Here your extraction will be faster than device file manager or PC as well.
    • Once extraction over ( note : you may see showing as " extraction completed with errors" press ok )
  • Open the RR3 apk, you should see the app is working and asking you for date of birth.
  • Once opened you will see the dashboard with minimum currency
  • Now in order to get unlimited currency, you need to download the save files from the Discord server ( where you actually downloaded the 6GB file )
    • In the save files you will have .dat files, use zachiver, copy the .dat file and paste in .com.ea - files - doc. It will ask option to replace, select replace.
  • Now close rr3 apk again and open it. You will see the unlimited currency and all cars and events unlocked.
  • Now you can play the game for free and offline.
  • Once app is working, you can turn off shizuku rooting and developer options.

I got to know this procedure after trying multiple times for two days, sitting with this installation process.

Hope it will be helpful for you as well guys.

I built a custom GPT that helps users model in Onshape step-by-step

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on a custom GPT focused specifically on CAD modeling in Onshape, and I wanted to share it with the community.

The main goal wasn’t just generating CAD steps…

but helping users understand proper parametric workflow and design intent.

It focuses on things like:

Fully constrained sketches

Cleaner feature strategy

Stable parametric modeling

Minimal and editable feature trees

Step-by-step guidance from images/descriptions

I noticed many beginners can follow tutorials but still struggle to build models independently later.

So I tried to make something that acts more like a CAD mentor instead of a command list.

Would genuinely love feedback from CAD users and engineers here.

Also open to feature suggestions 👀
