Help me understand my fusion and solidworks define planes

In Sketchup you could draw lines in 3D space and create faces and extrusions without much hassle. In fusion you have to define planes and possibly offset them. This just seems like a lot of unnecessary steps but maybe I just don’t see the bigger picture. Can someone please explain why it’s like this?

Why does the circle move? How do I move just the line?

This makes no sense, why is this the default to move something. I haven’t selected the circle as well.

Need some help with constraints

I want to constrain the vertical selected line to the selected circle. I've tried doing this a lot of ways but none successful. Coincident seems like the most sensible choice, to this relative noob at least, but Fusion is returning an error telling me it's already constrained.

Any idea how I should approach this?

Why isn't my body displaying?

EDIT: SOLVED

The STL opens in my slicer but it does not display in Fusion 360. Any thoughts on what I need to do in order to get it to display so I can continue to design the item? Thanks!

how to pattern on a curved, not circular body/face?

This is for 3d printing. I have been using f360 for couple of years, but new to adding pattern on a curved body. I want to pattern card suits, or any shape, on a curved body then cut through. Unsure how to. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Mirror issues:

I have been designing a round sofa in forms and I have run into an issue that I havent been able to get past. Becuase the chair is to be symmetrical, Ideally, I would have it mirrored so that the edits I make to one side would happen to the other.

The issue that I'm finding is that when I mirror the object, it goes automatically from smooth display to box display.

This is obviously a clear sign that I should attempt to repair the model, correct? Well, when I try to repair the body, it simply refuses to get selected.

Not only that, but when I try to seperate the mirrored object then merge the edges, it still goes into box display.

There are no errors and I have no clue what to do. Any advice on the matter would be greatly appriciated.

Thank you

Single-line (centerline) engraving of a serif font — how do I get solid single-stroke lettering without the tool tracing outlines?

I'm engraving text on a part in Fusion and I'm stuck on the font side

https://preview.redd.it/wt8v9semqcbh1.png?width=2844&format=png&auto=webp&s=636cb4b2031c3321ff62033f45ef543e6b1e6f7c

What I want: lettering in a serif font — ideally the Times New Roman look, with proper serifs and that thick/thin stroke contrast — engraved as a single centerline pass per stroke. Tool runs down the middle of each stroke once, clean solid lettering. **The problem:** any normal TrueType serif (Times New Roman etc.) is an outline font. Each letter is a closed filled shape, so the tool traces the *outline* of every stroke — I get hollow, double-lined letters instead of a single stroke down the center.

What applications would be best to make adjustments or changes to STLs (meshes)?

I tried fusion 360 and Inventor but it's a bit funky trying to adjust models without having the original sketches.

For an example of something I'd want to do is make adjustments to a bought 3d model of some manual item and give it the fixings to become autonomous (sorry if that's a weird example I couldn't figure out how to word it)

Please let me know if this is the wrong way to go about doing something like this. I understand if it would be better to make the models myself or something adjacent.

How do I model this?

Trying to create the front of the space shuttle, is there some sort of sweep function that can follow that path? Or maybe a better approach?

Seeking advice: Would you use this to CAD? What would you change?

I am designing a custom keyboard/Macropad designed specifically for CAD. I primarily use Onshape and Fusion. I definatly want units and the common keys for dimension, sketch and drawing tools, I included a few others. I am SEEKING CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK. What would you change, add or want different. Please let me know!

How would you go about modelling this exact pattern (staggered slots within a circle)? (ignore the black ellipse in the center)

Based on everything I know, a slot with rectangular pattern applied to it should work, but the one that get cut in the middle by the outer circle will need to be made manually. Application is speaker grille (3d printed)

how would i go about reverse engineering this shroud?

i’ve never reverse engineered anything with curves and such like this. any tips or help anyone can share my way? i loaded it as a canvas but i dont get how i can extrude or make it curvy like the real thing. any help would be appreciated. i’m still kind of a beginner and trying to do projects that interest me

Surfaces, how do they work, what are they for?

I have a lot experience with solids, but basically none with surfaces, what can I practice making to add them to my tool belt?

Design Help

So im going to try to make this as simple as i can.
Im trying to reverse engineer this Cadillac CTS front door. I have scan data. The mesh file i got wasnt in the best shape so i surfaced it using Fusion 360 forms.

I broke up the door into two pieces. Class A above belt and Class A below belt. The real car has a belt line trim piece covering the seam.

My question is kinda two parts,

  1. How can i create a loft(maybe a sweep?) that is two parted that can sweep to join the two? I tried to keep them in the same form, but was having a hard time not having star pointed tsplines. So i broke it up thinking i could create a nice transition.

  2. Do I even really need to join the two? Since I can create the belt line trim piece to cover the gap?

Looking for advice on how to proceed from here.

Important note: This is for a restoration project. The final part will most likely not be printed.

I'm trying to model this steering wheel cover for 3D printing. I have attached the workflow that I followed to get to where I am. I am completely open to changing this workflow if need be. I got a surface that's pretty close to what I need, but I can't seem to find a way to thicken it. I'm also not entirely happy with how this surface transitions between curves.

Any ideas on what to do next or a better way of going about this would be appreciated.
