My Fusion 360 hobby project: a scifi-computer

This is the MDU-12, a modular cyberdeck I’ve been designing for fun in my sparetime. It is for use around the workshop, making mundane work like pulling up blueprints and files more fun. This is the second version, using a much bigger elevtronics board than my first one.

The whole thing was designed in Fusion 360, mostly by iterating, printing parts, finding problems, and redesigning them. This is very much a hobby project i visit whenever i have time so some of the files are probably not structured or modeled in the most efficient ways.

But it is a fun project i work on, and I figured the files might be useful or interesting to others, so I’ve made the source files available here:

Feel free to take it apart, modify it, or build something weird from it.

3D printed cyberdeck case for framework motherboard

Just finished designing and 3D printing this case for the framework motherboard! This is based on a rasberry pi cyberdeck i built a few months ago, but fitting the framework hardware in meant i had to make it bigger, and give it a more powerfull battery, so now it is ridiculously big heavy and more fun!

and i added in a few other features while i was at it, like a Lora radio and more programmable buttons and dials.

I dont have a framework motherboard yet, but the files are aviable now if you have one and want to build a cyberdeck your self https://www.printables.com/model/1861126-mdu-12-modular-cyberdeck

MDU-12 Framework cyberdeck

I finally finished the Framework version of my modular cyberdeck. It is bigger, heavier has radio built in and is powered by bosch powertool-batteries.

I designed it around the Framework Laptop 12 Mainboard, but I don’t own one yet, because i spent all my money on rasberry pi’s and filament for previous projects. So I’ve entered it in the Printables competition, and if I win a Mainboard I can finally test the real hardware and keep developing it.
If you like the project, I’d really appreciate a like on Printables:

Max reverse!

I got some max reverse buttons engraved, now i need to figure out what they could realistically do on a cyberdeck.

I found these at a fleamarket, they are suuuper thin, are they actually for use or just decoration? Want to drink tea from it, but i am afraid it will just explode from the heat?

Some thougths from building my first cyberdeck!

I see a lot of posts asking where to start, so I thought I'd share my experience from building my first cyberdeck.
I was already comfortable with mechanical design, but knew very little about electronicks. So I started with components I knew worked and mostly i could just plug them together.

Then i  took the project to a local makerspace to learn the soldering, electronics and programming i needed. I met with great people who where experts in their domain, and in return i shared some CAD design tips with them! There are makerspaces all over the world, you probably have one closer to you than you think!

I've now been using this cyberdeck for more than half a year, and things have broken, quite a few wires have come loose as i cold soledred them, but I've learned a lot from fixing and improving it. The latest addition is making the scroll wheel on the handle work, aswell as adding a adressa le button on the handle. This took way longer than i thougth, and got lots of help from people in my local makerspace both with soldering, picking the rigth microcontroller and programming. The end result is a mess of wires inside the handle, but it works and i am very proud of it! Now i can scroll long pages and zoom in in CAD programs!

So my advice is if you're wondering where to start: start with what you know, get something working, and learn the missing skills as you go. And, you can leran alot in your local makerspace!
I'm currently making a video showing more of my local makerspace and what i learned there!

Corrupt files after update?

I have several files that are compromised of a series of very simple extrusions. I last touched these a few months ago. After the last update, adding more simple cuts, extrusions or chamfers create the desired geometry, but the displayed model gets infinitely thin faces often obscuring and covering the new features. Have anyone experienced this or know how to fix it?

I finaly made a build video!

A few people here asked for a build video, and I finally got it finished and published!
I’ve had to prioritize my day job for a while, but I finally had time to edit together some of the messy design and build process behind the modular cyberdeck.
https://youtu.be/gIWp\_F9PPzI
The files are linked in the description too, now with the sourcefiles in addition to the meshes. They are still a bit of a work in progress, but I wanted to get them out there so people can poke around, modify things, or build their own version.
The video does not go in to all the nitty gritty details, as the first edit was over 40 mins long! So i cut it down to keep the main story behind this device, but that leaves me with alot of extra material, maybe i will release those technical details as shorts videos if people are interested in geeking out on design choices and material choices?
Thanks again to everyone who followed the project and gave input along the way, a lot of the decisions were shaped by comments from this sub!
