Two meetups in aaand weve had almost 30 people at each one + grown the group to 110+ members already!!

We are getting bigger by the week aaaaah.... :D

For people who havent read the last 2 posts:

That was the whole idea behind The Social Gambit from the start.

Chess is just the excuse to get a bunch of strangers in the same room and actually have a good time.

And yes, you can come even if you have never touched a chessboard in your life!! 😂

Sooo Düsseldorf, its me again.. :D

First off a massive thank you to everyone who showed up for the first Event!!! Im literally speechless. We are already over 75 people in the group and counting and almost 30 of you showed up for the first one - I still cant believe it.... unreal..... it honestly couldnt have gone any better. x))

Thank you so so much for participating, for sharing, and for being part of a new movement here in Düsseldorf. ❤️

And for everyone thinking "okay... but what the fuck happened last Monday?" 😂

Well.... almost 30 people got together, grabbed some drinks, played some chess, met complete strangers and had an amazing evening together.

And before you think "yeah but I dont even know how to play chess" - thats kind of the point.

The Social Gambit isnt really about chess.

Its about finding a fun excuse to bring people together who otherwise might have never met.

And because the first one was such a banger, were keeping the momentum going guys - Round 2 is happening next Monday! 🔥

i posted this a couple of days ago and used AI to clean up my text - i wanna apologize - this time i want to make things right by writing this on my own sooo here goes nothing:

Around this time last year ive been to Toronto. And i was impressed and fascinated by the chess scene there. No matter where i went i met people from all walks of life, men and women, connecting through this beautiful game.

I moved to Düsseldorf about a month ago and i made a promise to myself:

1. to make chess accessible and fun for everyone

2. to find like minded people who are tired of the usual "dating apps" or "networking events".

So i came up with the idea:

The Social Gambit

a casual social chess meetup in Düsseldorf

And in less than 48 hours over 30 People joined the group.. o.o

I am lost for words to be honest - this is amazing!

It shows that not only the demand is there but people actually want get out of their homes and meet new people!

So this is my offer to everyone living here or visiting Düsseldorf:

Next Monday - 28.September.2026 6PM - open end

Altstadt-Area - but the exact location will be announced in the WhatsApp group this week.

All levels welcome, absolute beginner to veteran.

Language doesnt matter - German or English or we will communicate through DeepL hahaha

And its completely free - you just pay for your drinks!

Come alone or bring a friend - however you feel comfortable.

A few of us have been talking about how Düsseldorf could use a more regular, casual chess community — not a traditional chess club, not a tournament, just people meeting up, playing some games and actually getting to know each other.

So we're starting The Social Gambit.

The idea is simple:

Come alone or bring friends.

All levels welcome.

German or English.

Play a few games, grab a drink, meet some people.

No membership. No tournament pressure. No need to know anyone beforehand.

Why "The Social Gambit "?

In chess, a gambit is an opening move where you deliberately give up something small in exchange for a potential advantage. We think meeting new people works a little the same way: you give up a bit of your comfort zone, make your move, and you might gain something much more valuable in return.

We're planning to make this a regular thing in Düsseldorf — ideally weekly or every two weeks, depending on demand.
