Help needed. I am in need of a new computer for high end 1440p gaming and for 3rd year computer science with geographical information systems couses with GEOG 2553 – Geographic Information Systems and GEOG 4553 – Advanced Spatial Analysis and GIS as well as data science couses. I want the computer to last me a few years so i dont have to upgrade any time soon. I will be geting $2000 cad due to selling my old laptop. ALL PRICES ARE IN CAD. I would like to know if I am over paying for this build or if the price to performance is terrible. Also, if i could get some PC case recommendations that would be grate. I have a few hdds that I want to put in the computer. I will also be running the following programs:
School:
- School Programs: I’ll be using Ubuntu for school work in a VM. My primary GIS tool will be ArcGIS Pro, and for CS, I’ll be working in Visual Studio, the IntelliJ suite, and Unity.
HomeLab:
- Homelab: I plan to run a Proxmox VM on this machine to test containers and VMs before putting them to my main dedicated server. I'll also be running Immich in a container for me and three others. I'll be running Kali Linux as a VM for me to learn reverse engineering as well as another system to test school work in.
Game Hosting when I am active:
- Minecraft: A heavily modded server for 5 to 8 players will be running all the mods 10.
- Ark: Survival Evolved: A small server for 1 to 3 players. No mods.
