I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I don't know where else to go.

Why exactly do people support this industry? I understand that officials probably are getting payouts, but why the parents, especially when crimes from the TTI is well documented? I mean, they're actively paying to send this children to the abuse factories, and that's not mentioning gooning services, so they're actively taking a hit to have their kids be abused. And that's not even mentioning the local population around these families. People who turn a blind eye to these kids suffering. Wouldn't they at least try to help?

Sorry, I just can't comprehend why these people would do such a thing.

So, for context, I was imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread for my sister's child who was close to death, and we were starving. At this prison, there was this prison guard, we'll call him George for privacy, who ordered me to show this slip of yellow paper. However, I was unable to get work due to this paper. Eventually, a kindly priest took me in, but I shamefully stole some silver from his church. He forgave me, however, and then I was inspired by his words to start a new, honest life, tearing apart my yellow paper.

Many years later, I'm a mayor and wealthy industrialist who employes many workers who need the jobs I gave them. My life was going great until a new policeman arrived to my area, and, guess what, it's George. George, after I confess to avoid the imprisonment of an innocent man, confronts me at the hospital, where I was comforting a dying woman who was wrongly fired by my foreman, promising her that I would rescue her child from some dastardly innkeepers. To him, I realize, I will never not be a criminal.

So now, I'm on the run with her child, while George continues to hunt her and I down, believing that I'll always be a criminal, despite me having reformed. So, AITA?
