Raise tension on the ends

I read on some tw forums that some stringers will raise the tension 10-15% on the last 2 mains and last 3-4 crosses (throat and head).

The idea being that that these areas lower tension than the center.

Is this common practice?

When to stop rotating shoulders on groundstrokes

When rotating forward, after the hips fire and the arm is flying forward, when do you all stop opening up the shoulders to let the arm go?

How to get additional analog inputs with phantom into the Nova

For Zaxcom nova users, what’s a way to get an additional 2 analog inputs into a Nova 1?

I’d need phantom as well. I was thinking of using a zmt4 and getting those channels in wirelessly, but if there’s a way to get them in via xlr, that would be great. Thanks

My #1 easy ingredient that boosts nearly every dish

I’m not a beginner but wife is, and if she can make this, anyone can.

Tomato confit.

This is the easy version and I always keep a container of it in the fridge bc it is the dead simplest way to elevate and add a crazy amount of flavor to any dish.

-heat oven as low as it will go (180-200)
-cut 2 pints of baby tomatoes in half. Doesn’t matter which way
-smash a handful of garlic.
-toss everything in a bowl, add a good glug of olive oil or whatever you have.
-toss and add some salt
-spread over a sheet pan
-roast on low for 3-4 hrs. Watch a movie. Catch up on emails.

Use these with eggs, in a salad, chopped up in a sandwich, cooked with cream with pasta, add to bean/potato salads, with roasted proteins.

There’s a few ingredients like this if you make from time to time that save your ass at mealtime when you have nothing planned: chimmichuri, scallion oil, roasted garlic, etc.

3rd stringing job - critique it please

I feel more comfortable with the process. Got it down to 45 min. I see how I’m overlapping strings on the side.

With a DW, I’m still trying to figure out how much tension to pull when I grip the string - as the string gets shorter, there is more tension and I should probably adjust the weight lever.

Also, is it normal to have trouble with the crosses at the top and bottom of the hoop? What technique are you all using to make it faster?

Thanks!

Finished my 1st stringing job

Wasn’t as bad as I thought. Among the mistakes: -messed up the crosses
-scratched the hell out of the frame on the finishing knot on the crosses (thank god it was a beater frame to practice on)
-my finishing knot is definitely not right
-tension on some strings is not right

Questions:
-I notice after set tension and clamp, and then release the string from the gripper, the clamp moves a little, even when I get it right on the grommet. Everything is rock solid. Will this affect overall tension? (Ie- should I set tension 2-3lb higher to compensate?)

-how in the hell do you get the string through the final hole on the last cross?
-I need a good bent nose plier, I see the value of those
-I don’t understand why I bought the starting clamp
-when setting the linear gripper level, I get that it doesn’t really matter as long as I’m consistent. But what position do you drop weight stringers prefer starting at (1, 2, 3 o’clock)
-i notice the string kind of gets dented by the linear gripper. Is this ok?

Thanks so much, this sub has been great!

is this the right way to use a linear gripper?

This will induce a lot of cringe for you experienced stringers, but this is my very first attempt.

Just put together the Alpha Pioneer DC Plus stringer, and I've been struggling to figure out the right way to load and apply tension. I found a few videos that use a linear gripper but no comments about where to set it, etc.

what do you if:
-the weighted arm has too much tension and doesn't sit level? Will the tension already applied mess up the string and tension?
-at what position should i start the linear gripper? I was told by Alpha, 2 or 3 o'clock
-i'm guessing after I load the gripper, i push it down until there's enough tension to hold the string in place, i hold the linear gripper down while i raise the weighted arm and then let it drop

here's a video of me doing it

Update: thanks all, got it going.

What are 4.5+ players doing after they hit balls back?

After I hit a groundstroke, I position myself to cover the possible angle of return.

But beyond the split step, what are advanced players doing to anticipate the next ball? How are they reading where the shot is going?

I feel like I’m not making the most with my time while waiting for the shot to come back.

good fixed clamp machine

i'm an avid tennis player, (played HS, got back into as a grown up for the past 3 yrs) i average about 15-20 hrs a week of tennis and have been down the rabbit hole of stringing machines. My takeaways:

  1. get a fixed clamp system over float/fly
  2. drop weight over crank (bc of calibration)
  3. get a starting clamp (i'll know why later)
  4. used if possible

seems like the Alpha Pioneer DC Plus Gravity is the most economical, trustworthy stringer. I can't find it used but at $709 (including taxes + shipping) it seems like the lowest cost, reliable, fixed clamp system.

does this seem like a reasonable stringer, for a beginner?

Update:
Ok! Just pulled the trigger, thanks everyone for your input!

Got the stringer, starting clamp, a reel of cheap poly ($40) to practice on for $800 including shipping. I’ll be copying some YouTube stringing video next week 😬

Prevent stalker from accessing personal website

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to help a family member who is being stalked on her personal website which she uses to portfolio her work.

The stalker is a known person, who lives in the same city, and has been using her website’s “contact me” form to send her messages.

We’ve alerted the local PD, Family Justice Center, and have been keeping a papertrail of contact this person has done.

Is there a way to prevent this person from using her website to contact her, or outright block him from accessing the website?

Thank you

Getting into stringing racquets

I’m very interested in stringing racquets and was wondering what resources (videos) are good and what machine would be a good investment (budget is $500-700)

I was wondering if a local shop would be open to teaching me if I paid them.

Thanks

I’m dialing in on timing, which is a big, helpful mental shift for me. I picture my ideal strike zone in front of me and am getting better at timing my swing.

But I still misjudge spacing. I feel like I’m spending way too much energy shuffling and making micro adjustments on midcourt balls - maybe it’s nerves?

I feel like the solution is just more court time but are there footwork patterns or ways to get better at moving more efficiently to midcourt balls?
