I thought of this earlier today, and then seeing the latest Valrak rumour pushed me into posting my musings. Potentially, GW would like to provide some avenue for people continuing to use their models, to avoid a huge backlash, if they do go ahead with legending firstborn marines.

This avenue could be using them as renegade marines - a halfway house between the loyal space marines they once were, and the full-on trimmed up chaos marines on the other extreme. It is enough of a change that many people won't like it and buy new primaris, while it also acts as a pressure safety valve to remove the worst of the heat, as technically lots of the models are still usable...

What do you think? Perhaps instead we eventually get primaris tactical squads? Do the recent upgrades to terminators mean there's no substance to the rumours?
