I’ve been buying Shay/shay bags for a good minute trying to find a good middle ground between too expensive and moderately priced. In my travails of over a year and months lol, I’ve narrowed it down to one factory where I get a good product and great price for it.

My bag of choice was simple. I opted for the Shay in black lambskin jumbo size 30cm from Rome factory. Paid $420 with shipping.

The second runners were God ($519 shipped) and 187 ($712 shipped) factory for lambskin. Hands down they know their business too. The leather is butter and soft all around. Well made but just a tad too pricey.

The other factories like Blake or “UES” ($460 shipped) or Genie ($460 shipped) are okay, sometimes overpriced and not the best leather quality—especially specialty leathers like goatskin. They do make decent vintage models but the newer ones are just not that impressive.

Overall I have found purse peace and will be purging what doesn’t serve anymore. Bottom line is, always get the best bank for your buck. Don’t fall for the hype and always set your expectations to realistic ones. After all these aren’t perfect but it’s better than what’s flowing around in most places.

These photos are for reference. I’ve since given up on the quintessential lambskin or caviar flap bag. I have chosen Rome based on various factors since the bag is modeled after pre 2021 models.

My ranking:

1. Rome — can’t beat the leather superb bodin joyeux and quilting closest to bags circa 2016 - 2021 / 187 —the leather was buttery the hardware was too cadmium yellow (little off putting)
2. God factory — decent leather, too firm like calfskin but superb execution somewhat puffy but my auth is the same/Upper East side—superb leather, shapes vary, the stitching is comparable to the God factory / OF is very nice leather wise, hardware was okay
3. Genie— the leather was stiff, the side profile was awkward and the alignment was slightly off/XiaoC — stiff, weird shape, but nice quilting

I’m exhausted. 😩 I have since stopped. There are lots more jumbos I’ve had but will not be overdoing the dump lol.

This is my humble opinion, you don’t need to agree with me and that’s fine. I’ve found purse peace in the process. 🧘🏻‍♀️

What extrait or EDP are like Bath and Body Works but with better sillage, projection and longevity (this being the more salient aspect). Don’t get me wrong I LOVE the aurora scent but it lasts maybe about 1 hour or so—it’s so lovely 😭

I’m thinking maybe Love by Cartier might be close due to the sticky, jammy rose but maybe not as close? Also, that scent does not last as long as I would like.

Any suggestions?
